Seio pump question

Having never run a Seio pump before, why is it that they have so many configurations, and it seems most people make them look like tunze streams, why is this?

What do you mean "make them look like Tunze streams"?

TheReefGeek 04-20-2006 10:42 PM

You can take the cover off and set it up like in the picture in the link below.

The far left is "standard" the far right is what I am talking about, I have seen it done on most seios in people's tank pics, but I am curious why

you get more flow out of them with the cover off and they take up way less space.

Yup

options

I personally like the various optional configurations available. Ditto on the cover off thing.

Makes sense now, thanks!

With the cover off, is the risk of something getting sucked into it/against it and dieing much greater though?

Cover off...

I have left the cover on, my sea hare has been up there multiple times and without that protection hed' a been soup. I like the flow even with the cover on and i didnt have a hard time tucking it away and makiing it somwhat inconspicious.

sieo 800, 45 gal.

SEIO's are snail eating monsters!

TheReefGeek 04-21-2006 07:47 PM

Even with the covers on?

Have you found so?

My snails go onto the seio output alot which means they have to cross the intake(and mine are mounted tunze style) and I've never found one stuck to it?

StirCrazy 04-22-2006 12:50 AM

the cover only redirects the out flow it dosn't cover the intake grills so there is no difference for sucking stuff in with the cover on or off. The cover is usefull for placing it in a corner to blow accross the bottom and thats about it.

The full cover(that makes it look like a rectangular block) actually does change the intake grill location, and also adds slightly more grill surface area than the circular shape of the pump.

ive found the seahare riding the seio, i think he kinda liked it, he never complained at any rate.
