Easy Blade - Reef god's gift to reefers

http://www.championlighting.com/prod...4&cat=0&page=1

Just picked up one of these from OA and glued it to the back of my MagFloat 350 with crazy glue. It scraped away coraline algae like its slime and especially where you can't normally get to with a magnet cleaner. I thought i would have problems controlling it but it was a piece of cake. No need to use those Kent scrapers with stainless steel insert anymore. For 15 bucks, its worth every penny. It has a stainless steel blade that is retractable but instead of leaving it in the scraper, I removed mine, rinse in fresh water and air dried it. If you have problems with coraline algae especially on the edges of your glass, you won't regret getting this nifty device. Such a simple idea but yet so effective.
Unfortunately if you have an acrylic tank, i don't think this will work for you.

They have them OA great ,I will have to remember to pick one next time I'm there.
Thanks for the revue..

dirtyreefer 03-19-2006 03:49 PM

I've seen this thing before, but didn't think it would work when looking at the picture. Good score! I'll have to try one since I get alot of coralline growing on my glass :D

Well, they don't fit on the Magnavore....so now I have a useless piece of plastic glued to my magnet. Could there be a blade slightly longer?

Sorry Deb... couldn't help myself.

TheReefGeek 04-20-2006 03:29 PM

Maybe JL will get them in soon.

Anybody know if they are in Edmonton anywhere?

atcguy 04-20-2006 04:58 PM

they work awesome, all I can say. take the blade out after use though , it will rust

zulu_principle 04-20-2006 08:14 PM

Yup, I hope J&L gets them soon too.

Wendell do you carry them, I dont see them on your site.

EmilyB 04-21-2006 05:56 AM

I got mine from Wendell.

I will likely sell the other one, unless I can come up with a longer blade.

dockrat 05-09-2006 06:07 PM

I just got one and they work great...

TheReefGeek 05-10-2006 02:41 PM

I got one, fantastic piece of equipment. Horribly expensive for a piece of plastic and a blade, and it doesn't come with glue even, but worth the price, it eats through any algae or coraline deposits you have.

christyf5 05-19-2006 06:55 PM

I just got one of these from ReefWerkz! Dang, it just gets everything off the glass so easily. Worth every penny IMO. (and really not that expensive compared to some of the other crap I've wasted my money on )

trilinearmipmap 05-21-2006 03:52 PM

Any problems with scratching the glass?

And are they adjustable as far as how far the blade sticks out?

Chin_Lee 05-21-2006 05:37 PM

no & yes

Great Product!

Picked one up at OA - not the cheapest thing but I LOVE IT! Works like a charm - wish I thought of it.

StirCrazy 05-27-2006 03:53 AM

Has anyone seen replacement blades sold for other applications that could be puchaced off the self locally?

EmilyB 05-28-2006 08:11 AM

I found the thing I was originally looking for, because I had one in the FW tank and just used it one day connected to my large outside magnet in the reef. It was AWESOME. I went looking everywhere for it, including online, but now somehow it popped up again, so I am going to try it once more. I'll let you know how well it works this time.

Rust

I've had the easy blade for about 2 weeks now, works GREAT.

However I'm seeing orange RUST creeping out of the sides of where the blade is sandwiched and around where the plastic screw is.

That cant be good?!!

TheReefGeek 05-31-2006 03:46 PM

I don't leave mine in the tank for fear of rusting.

I have two magnets, one with the blade attachment that I use weekly, and one without the attachment that I leave in the tank.

I also take the blade off and dry it before storing it.

Anybody found where to buy replacement blades? I remember the instructions said a brand name but I can't remember.

Psyire 08-10-2006 10:09 AM

I just picked up one of these babies the other day and WOW! I should have listened earlier, this thing works absolute wonders. My tank is sparkling clean once again!

Anyone find replacement blades yet?

kari 08-10-2006 12:11 PM

The only replacement blades I have found are by MO. Try Ocean Aquatics.

Jaws 08-10-2006 03:35 PM

Frag Factory carries them too.

christyf5 08-10-2006 05:10 PM

I got my replacement blades from reefwerkz

albert_dao 08-10-2006 07:10 PM

Stainless steel replacement blades should be available soon.

GMGQ 08-11-2006 12:52 AM

My problem is that after a while, it's hard to get the blade to sit flush all the way across. Right now, only half of the blade is against the glass, the other half is slightly lifted up aka useless.

Even with the adjustable nylon screw, there's only so much you can 'wiggle' the blade the blade. So that kinda sux.

Other than that, it is still easier to use it in addition to the regular scrapers.

I got mine from OA, and they sell the blades as well.

Chaloupa 06-08-2007 11:40 PM

Super old thread but........ I just got one of these Easy Blades...(OK I actually got it a couple of months ago and kept forgetting to put it on...) and WOW it really is amazing...all the gimics you purchase that never work...then this? This is amazing! I am so thankful that this thread was started or else I never would have known about these....GREAT PRODUCT!!!! I love scraping my tank now!

Psyire 06-09-2007 01:35 AM

I just used mine today, and it works just as good as the day I first used it!

(Still an awesome product!)

Oh, I'm on a newer blade ofcourse...

Chin_Lee 06-09-2007 03:54 AM

keep away from silicone

just be very careful around the silicone corners. that blade will eventually take that silicone off.

ClubReef 06-09-2007 05:37 AM

I don't usually rate products .. but dang this is the best purchase I have made in this hobby! Screw the long handle scrappers..they are useless compared to this thing!

cprowler 08-17-2007 08:00 PM

I finally glued on the one I have had for month and months and can’t believe how well it works, how civilized. :o

Zylumn 08-18-2007 04:19 AM

Albert you guys carry them????

atcguy 08-18-2007 05:07 AM

I find I end up wanting a new blade after it starts to really rust, I figure a little more iron in the tank wont hurt. not for a 120g. maybe a nano cube but rust isnt really an issue IMO

Of course :D

Johnny Reefer 12-29-2008 11:59 PM

Do these work even for stubborn green algae dots?

trilinearmipmap 12-30-2008 12:10 AM

I have had one of these for a couple of years or more and I am happy with it for scraping off coraline.

For my FW tank I was thinking of getting one of these:

Wondering if anyone has tried this product yet.
