What is your TDS at home?

Hello,

I tried doing a search here but couldn't find anything. I'm curious what others have found their local TDS to be. I'm particularly curious about others here in Langley. The reason is that I just got a new TDS meter from Aquasafe to test my RO unit and I was expecting to find our water to have >100ppm TDS but the meter says my cold water from the tap is 14ppm TDS and my hot water is 24ppm TDS. I'm not sure if these numbers are accurate. If they are I expect this means my RO membrane should last quite some time.

My tap water here in Winfield is 201 ppm on my TDS meter.

DanG 03-16-2006 02:30 PM

Here in Winnipeg I get 67ppm from the cold water. I've never measured from the hot. After my aquasafe rodi is done with it, it fluctuates between 0 and 1 ppm.

TheReefGeek 03-16-2006 02:57 PM

Edmonton has been running 140-150ppm cold. My rodi eats it down to zero.

Invigor 03-16-2006 03:04 PM

318 in regina, 3ppm outta my rodi unit.

Hi Scott,

I got dual TDS meter (J&L), 9 coming in 0 out of RO, I don't bother measuring after the DI. I was also questioning the accuracy of this meter.
I have been using my membrane for 3 years.

The GVRD has awesome water. I'm in Vancouver, and from the tap, my water is around 012.

The good thing about this is that you wont have to change the RO/DI filters as often.

So it just blows me away when I see posts in the States saying their tap water is reading a few HUNDRED. :S

fkshiu 03-16-2006 06:08 PM

Yep, I've seen my TDS get as low as around 10 ppm here in East Van. Your RO/DI membranes/filters/resins will last a lot longer because there's simply not very much stuff to remove.

Willow 03-16-2006 06:17 PM

mines about 12-13, ive seen it as low as 9.

rickjames 03-16-2006 07:14 PM

24 here in Duncan, 499+ out of my parents well in Prince George  The hardest water ever....

4ptbuck 03-16-2006 07:41 PM

I am about 12 in Richmond

The GVRD water is 10 ppm TDS White Rock water is 100ppm TDS. We test with a Myron meter which is calibrated regularly.

Last time my well water was tested was 2400 ppm tds, nice eh

after setelment tank, clorine treatment, softener, and rodi i get 57

Willow 03-17-2006 01:58 AM

dang i hope you dont drink that!

StirCrazy 03-17-2006 04:11 AM

Yup...so low here in Coquitlam that I stopped bothering to measure it. I too thought that my TDS meter wasn't working correctly when I first got it.

AC33 03-17-2006 06:03 AM

The tds here in Richmond is very low, which is why I only use a DI filter. The "tap water purifier" DI filter lasts a very long time before it needs to be replaced due to our low tds.

Samw 03-17-2006 06:20 AM

Yeah, my TDS measured about 5 and I also thought my meter was faulty.

Ouch!

So then 14 isn't out of line down here? I guess I shouldn't get too worried when my kids drink out of the tap. :)

Paverdude 03-17-2006 01:48 PM

Ya i get to buy bottled water

my wife has a cist in her kidney we think is from the water (she moved out here when she was 14, no ro back then)

Paverdude 03-17-2006 01:50 PM

I also have 2 1250 gallon tanks in my basement for delivered water from calgary, you think you have hummidity problems!

Fish 03-17-2006 02:07 PM

Wow! Mine is about 220PPM and the ro/di filter takes is down to single digits.

Joe Reefer 03-17-2006 02:15 PM

189ppm before
0-1ppm after ro/di

Skimmerking 03-17-2006 02:32 PM

Man some high readings I think ours is is around 400 i thinki n Brandon. Not sure going t ocheck thou hear i thought that well water and Mountain water was the best in B.C it can get up there...... So soft water is the best i take it right.

I thought about getting a water softner for my house will that do anything to the water. and then If I run it thru the RO machine..

Shy_Koi 03-17-2006 03:50 PM

400+ out of the tap (town treated water, out of the Whitemud River)
3-5 after RO/DI

TDS goes through the roof during spring break up though - can't see the bottom of the bathtub for a few weeks

Mine is about 1500ppm from my well. I priced out getting a RO/DI system to be able to properly treat my water and it priced out at over $5000 plus I would have needed to add another room to my house (no basement) to house all the "stuff". I just buy bottled water which is a PITA with the amount of tanks I have.
If and when I build an addition to my house it will have a water treatment system in it.

Fish aside, with some of those big numbers, what's the cut off for people (Provincal guidelines etc)?

Gizmo 03-18-2006 02:11 PM

150ppm out of the tap here. My AquaFX Barracuda takes that to a steady 000ppm every time. I use culligan distilled water for major water changes though.
