any interest in Nassarius or Turbos?
I'm thinking about ordering a large shipment of snails for my tank but I won't need them all. I thought I'd find out if anyone would like to buy 50-100 snails (either Nassarius or Astrea) for about 1-2$ per snail? Or perhaps tradsies for some blue or red legged hermits?
|
were are you located?
|
If you're in Victoria, I'd be interested.
|
Sorry, forgot to mention that little detail:redface:
I live in Lethbridge. If anyone from Calgary is interested, I could probably drive the snails up since I need to go up there soon anyways. |
I'd take a handfull of each if you're coming to Calgary anyway's, but I don't need hundreds.
|
I could take a dozen aswell, but yeah, not many more than that.
|
Where are you getting them from?

I would be ordering from here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/300-saltwater-re...QQcmdZViewItem or here: http://cgi.ebay.com/200-Nassarius-Ob...QQcmdZViewItem or here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Blue-leg-hermit-...QQcmdZViewItem there's a few others on e-bay that are similar. Most have really good feedback... anyone had experience with e-bay snails? |
does anyone know what the customs/brokerage/duty would be to get these snails from the US?
|
Note that Nassarius Obsoleta are not the same ones available from most LFS. Nassarius Obsoleta are from cooler waters (much like Margarita snails). I think they behave differently from the "regular" Nassarius snails as well (Nass. Obsoleta actually eat algae whereas the other Nass. Sp. snails are carrion feeders). Just and FYI.

send Howdy.... a message he buys all the time.He knows the ins and outs on that one and I think he still has a bunch of snails left right now too and hermits....

Ok, so after following up on mr alberta's advice, I don't think I'll go with the Nasarrius snails. I'll probably get a bunch of Astrea snails, blue legged hermits and red legged hermits. Here's what should be available after I take some (assuming everything survives transit):
90 Astreas...................... 1.75 each 50 Blue legged hermits.... 1.00 each 25 Red legged hermits..... 1.00 each If you're interested, and you live in Calgary or south of Calgary, PM me with the number of each that you'd like. I won't place the order unless I hear from enough people to get rid of all of them. First come, first serve. Also, I'm assuming that most of the interest will be in Calgary so I was wondering if there is one person who would mind being a "drop off" point for me so I don't have to make several trips to the big C:) |
re stuff
just a word of caution..
ask about whether or not they ship to canada before you bid. most of them will not...in fact about 99 percent of them wont good luck though Neal |
Hey, I have a large order coming up of quite a few Nassarius Obsoleta, I will let you know how it goes and give you the contact if everything goes well, there will be enough for everyone that has posted thus far. I am only bringing Nassarius Obsoleta, nothing else and shipment should be on its way.
Didn't want to hijack your post but figured if this contact is good for shipping and all arrives well, may as well pass it on. Should know soon. |
They do ship to Canada. I have a shipping quote of 65$. It seems like a pretty big gouge so I'm trying to talk them down right now.
Allincuddy, thanks for jumping in! I'd really like to hear how things work out. |
re stuff
I just wanted to make sure that you realized i wasn't trying to insult your intelligence..just trying to pass on some helpful advice.
65 bucks isn't out of line really.. last shipment i brought up for two boxes of inverts cost me 292.00 US for shipping. That was overnight thru fedex.. so yea..65 bucks...a good deal..lol BTW, the nassarius ones on Ebay are carnivores as well..I have a couple in my 90 gallon and they pop out of the ground searching for the food when i feed the tank mysis. Sorta of reminds me of the movie Tremors..lol Good Luck Neal |
No worries Howdy:) I wasn't insulted at all, I appriciate your help and advice!

snails
I will take 20 ormore.For sure.That would be great.
|
So to recap, I will be ordering Astrea snails, NOT NASSARIUS. I will also be getting blue and red legged hermits. For the following people, are you still interested in getting snails or hermits even though my original plan was Nassarius:
G1GY fishmanty Tarolisol oilfield safety SJSobczyk sergeantpilot if so, please tell me the exact number and what kind of invert you want. Again, here are the prices and quantities available: 90 Astrea snails.............. 1.75 each 50 Blue legged hermits... 1.00 each 25 Red legged hermits.... 1.00 each stinky, I have you down for 20 Astreas. Thanks! |
Also, I can take them up to calgary but no further. If you're from Edmonton you'll have to come into Calgary to pick up.
|
Um... can't decide how many I want... Would be going into a 90gallon... so lets say 20?
But I will only buy em if someone can bring em up to calgary... how much gas money would you want?? Thanks Ty |
ok fishmanty I have you down for 20 Astreas. Don't worry about gas money, I'd be going up there anyways so it's no problem. Do you want any hermits too?
|
20 red hermits if possible to.Just curoius how long till the oreder is placed?
|
I'll probably place the order tomorrow. They should arrive here in 1-2 weeks.
|
Yeah, can you put me down for 10 red and 10 blue?
|
sure thing, fishmanty!
|
Don't mean to hijack this thread but I was wondering if anyone has ever brought back inverts from the US while there on holidays. I will be in Florida in March and thought that this might be an idea (PM me so we don't clutter up this thread)
|
I'm still in for 20 snails if you have them to spare. :)
|
ok, everything has been spoken for. The crabs and snails will be going to:
fishmanty stinky allincuddy G1GY For those who had expressed interest in Nassarius, you could talk to allincuddy... he's bringing in a bunch soon. Thanks! |
What is the expected ship date/delivery date??/
|
I asked them about shipping date on the weekend; I'm still waiting to hear back from them. It should be within the next week or two, according to their description. I'll keep you informed when I find out.
|
Ok, cool. The sooner the better
Hopefully they all make it over safe and sound |
Ok, I just heard back from them... The snails and crabs are going out today:) I wasn't expecting them so soon... That means I will head up to Calgary this Saturday afternoon. I'll pm everyone who ordered some, so we can figure out how to meet.
