Clam Info
Just curious to know what type of clam(s) that members on this board keep. Please list below the following:
1-Species 2-Lighting 3-Location in tank 4-Feeding Schedule 5-Water Perameters-Salinity,Temperature, Calcium levels |
I kept a squamosa for about 1 year under 250 & 400w MH in the bottom of my tank, didn't feed it. It was always open and responsive, didn't grow much in 1 year though, but at the time I was not maintaining my calcium levels because the clam was the only calcium dependant organism in my tank.

Sort of skipped a couple of years in the poll. I have had my clams for more than a year but less than 3 years.
Anyway I have a Squamosa and a Derasa on the sandbed. 3 Croceas and a teardrop in the rockwork. 400W MH light. I dose my tank daily with Phytofeast. Was dosing with DT's but found the Phytofeast a more cost effective method. I run a calcium reactor (Precision Marine 622) So far able to keep up and have not had to suppliment calcium. ASM G4X protein skimmer with mods Bi weekly water changes of 10-15% 230g tank with 77g sump/fuge Clams have all grown in the past year but by far the most growth on the Derasa - probably doubled in size in the past 6 months. |

1-Species:
One Maxima, 3-4" 2-Lighting: Two 250W 6500K Iwasaki Bulbs 3-Location in tank Approx. 24"" below the surface on tank bottom. 4-Feeding Schedule Non-existent 5-Water Perameters-Salinity,Temperature, Calcium levels 1.025, 78-80 F, 425 ppm Ca |
Ruth, I edited the poll to add the 1-3 years option.
|
Christy. I voted for 1-3 years and I see that my vote was deleted when you edited the poll the 2nd time. I can't vote again.

Have 2 Croceas under pc4-65w. one is at about 6" on rock the other is at 15" in the sand bed. I don't have a reg feeding schedule for them. My water is 1.025 for sal, 27*c and my cal is up and down around 400

1-Species Sqamosa
2-Lighting 400 watt 14K 3-Location in tank Sandbed (24 inches below water surface) 4-Feeding Schedule twice a week (Kent phytoplankton) 5-Water Perameters-Salinity,Temperature, Calcium levels Ca>400, Mg>1200, ALK=3.5-4 Meq/L, 35 ppt, 82C. |
Just got a squamosa 3 months ago
18" down in the sandbed under 265watts of powercompact dont feed and dont add any calcium its already grown a new lip of shell has dulled a bit though |

1-Species:
One Crocea. 4-5" 2-Lighting: One 150w HQI Ushio 20k 3-Location in tank Bottom of tank.. maybe 12" below water surface. 4-Feeding Schedule No feedings. 5-Water Perameters-Salinity,Temperature, Calcium levels 1.025, 78-81, 410-430. Cheers. |
I have two, a maxima and a crocea. They live under 400w MH, 14k and 10k respectively. The maxima is just off the sandbed and the crocea is about 6"-7" below the surface more so under the 10k light right now.
I don't feed regularly, on occasion I will dose phyto, but I honestly see very little change or impact hence why I no longer dose phyto religiously. Tank is 0.025 for salinity, it runs between 78-83 for temp, and Ca levels are approx 440 and I usually try to keep the alk at around 7-9 dkh as it seems to impact growth. |
Species:
1 Gold Maxima (greenish purple) 3-inch good growth 1 Bright Green Maxima 1-inch 1 Crocea (bright blue) 3-inch Lighting: 330 watt 10k VHO with 110 VHO actintic Location in tank 14 inched away from lights on rock Feeding Schedule: Every day with DT and Phytofeast mixture Water Perameters-Salinity,Temperature, Calcium levels: 1.025, 82F, Ca 410-430 |

1-Species:
10 various species 2-Lighting: 2-250W 10K, 2-250W 14K, 4-T5 54W all Sun Aquatics 3-Location in tank 24" deep on sand bed 4-Feeding Schedule whatever I feed the tank 5-Water Perameters-Salinity,Temperature, Calcium levels 1.025, 78-80 F, 400 - 430 ppm Ca |
1-Species
1 Crocea(4" shell, 5" mantle), 1 Squamosa(5" shell, 7" mantle) 2-Lighting Dual 400W SE halides, 10K XM and 20K XM, both mounted 12" above water line 3-Location in tank Crocea on FSB(faux sand-bed)(20") directly under 20K halide, Squamosa in same location on other side of tank, directly under 10K halide(10K has shorter photoperiod than 20K) 4-Feeding Schedule Never fed specifically, I dont dose phyto, I believe they might get some of the coral plankton I feed the corals sometimes but I do it in low quantity. 5-Water Perameters-Salinity,Temperature, Calcium levels Salinity: 1.025 Temp: 79.4F(average, 78 at night, climbs to 80.5 on warm day) Calcium: 380-400ppm |
1 Squamosa and 1 green crocea under 2 x 150 hqi.

I'm not reall sure how old it is, but I just got it a few weeks ago from another reefer on this forum (so I voted a year or less). Its a crocea, and its about 4-5 inches. I have it under 250w MHs at about 16" of depth on the rock work. I have not fed it directly, it just gets leftovers (looking great so far). Water parameters as of today:
CA - 420 Alk - 7.7 (a bit lower than normal) MG - 1290 PH - 8.22 SG 1.026 Temp - 80.1 NO3 - 0.5 PO4 - 0 |
