acrylic/plexie in calgary
I am planning on building my own bubble trap/surface skimmer for my remora this weekend, and was wondering the preferred location to buy acylic, or domething to build it out of. I would like black, but could make due with clear.

This is the place I know of:
Industrial Plastics & Paints (403) 252-8368 5558 1 Street SE Calgary, AB T2H 2W9 |
When I've bought acrylic I bought it at Industrial Paints and Plastics.
I'm told GEPolymershapes is possibly a better place to buy from though. |
Also, what kind of blade would one reccomend me to use so I can cut it on my tablesaw?
|
An acrylic cutting blade perhaps?
|
I always used a acrylic cutter or box cutter when using plexi-glass... easy as pie
|
I'v bought at GE Polymer Shapes a couple of times mostly because they are close to my home. They seem to be pretty decent to deal with.
As for cutting on the table saw, a plastics blade is the best choice, but probably too costly. Next best is a fine tooth carbide blade. I use a 10" 120 tooth, which works pretty well. |
Laird plastics is my preference - off 32nd NE. But I get deals there since we order a lot of acrylic from them for work

Black acrylic
Hi RobbAdams,
I have black acrylic 1/8”, I can trade for LPS or if you do not have any I can even spare some for you, how big chunk do you need let me know. |
I've used two different manufacturers blades, purchased locally, which have worked very well for me. The better one I can't remember the name ( Tman1973 ownes it now.) The one I'm using currently is made by Royse I believe. They are a bit pricey but not in the long run after inexpensive resharpening, time and material saved with better cuts. Probably not worth while if you are planning on using a cheap table top portable style saw though.

Black acrylic
Hi RobbAdams,
Brother you need such small chunk so don’t worry, it’s yours for free. Small pieces witch I can offer are: 10 ½ X24 ¼ ,14X24 ¼ ,10 3/4X49 you can choose whichever you like. Call me 605-7857 any time |
Your other option is to get the acrylic shop to cut everything to spec for you. I did that at industrial for my nano refugium and it worked great. I assembled things myself but I'm sure they could do that too if you wanted.
I chose to have them cut to spec because it was cheaper than buying the tool and bits needed to cut things myself. good luck and look forward to seeing the finished project |
