Luminarc group buy

OK I have sent an e-mail to Pacific Garden Supply to see what kind of a deal we might be able to get if we put together a group buy on Luminarc reflectors and will post prices and details as soon as I hear back from them. I am going to be ordering 2 of the Luminarc 111 reflectors with the ballast and connections. Here is a link to their home page.
http://www.pacificgardensupply.com/
I would like to see if there is any interest in this before I put in too much time so if you could either post here or send me a pm to let me know and also what you are interested in that would be much appreciated.

TheReefGeek 02-07-2006 10:42 PM

Depending on the deal, I might be interested in 2 or 3 reflectors.

Jason McK 02-07-2006 11:29 PM

Ya if it's a decent deal I would be in for 3
I'm going to get 3 Luminarc 3s so if this is a go that is what I'll order

Jason

asherah 02-08-2006 07:54 AM

depends on prices but i'd sure love to get 1 or 2. =)

Reefhawk1 02-08-2006 08:54 AM

I will need two if they are the right price

Ruth 02-08-2006 02:07 PM

Here is the reply that I got from them
First off, we can definitely ship to Canada, for group orders, we prefer to ship everything to one or two locations, instead of everybody individually, it's easier to make sure everything is right that way.
For the pricing, we have a break at 10+ units (can be L3 or LA3) which is $115 per reflector (down from $130) And another break at 20+, which is $105 per reflector.
I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!

If there are enough people interested I guess we could have them drop shipped to someone in Vancouver and either Calgary or Edmonton. LMK if you are interested at these prices. Of course the prices are in US$

TheReefGeek 02-08-2006 02:33 PM

Still too rich for my blood for just a reflector, although I am sure they are great. Thanks for checking the group pricing and posting though.

muck 02-08-2006 02:48 PM

Hey Ruth,

I might be interested in up to 4 units.
And i will volunteer to be a drop point.

TheReefGeek 02-08-2006 02:57 PM

I wonder why the 4 is cheaper than the 3. The 4 is smaller, is that the only difference, and if so why would it be a higher number.....

mr_alberta 02-08-2006 03:13 PM

The Lumanarc 3 reflectors are one of the best, if not the best reflector that has been tested for aquarium applications (see Sanjay Joshi's articles for more info). I wish you the best of luck with this group buy. If I had the room for them, I'd be all over them like white on rice

dirtyreefer 02-08-2006 03:19 PM

Yup I agree with Mr Alberta, I have read nothing but good things about luminarcs. There's a huge discussion thread on RC regarding luminarcs, should check it out before purchasing. I think it's called "Luminarcs...Excellent!" or something like that.

muck 02-08-2006 03:28 PM

Any breaks for higher Qtys? I know the last group order was for 40 units..

Ruth 02-08-2006 03:40 PM

It doesn't look like we will get that many - if it starts to look like we have over 20 I will definately make the inquiry.

christyf5 02-08-2006 05:15 PM

I'm in for 2 of the mini A3's

dbdavid 02-08-2006 06:33 PM

Hi Ruth, did their price include shipping? I might be in for 3 or 4.

Dave

Ruth 02-08-2006 06:41 PM

They did not say but I am pretty sure that shipping is NOT included as they said they would prefer to ship to one or two locations and have people pick them up.

dbdavid 02-08-2006 08:51 PM

Hi Ruth I am in for 3 of the mini L3's.

Dave

Psyire 02-09-2006 01:13 AM

I'm in for 3 Reflectors with Moguls/Sockets (No Cords). Those prices you quoted.. were they for just the reflector? I'm pretty sure he charges separately for the Moguls/Sockets. Just wanted to be sure...

Psyire 02-09-2006 01:14 AM

For anyone that's wondering about how well these things work. Well they are AMAZING. I have 3 of them already over my 180g setup.

Jason McK 02-09-2006 01:57 AM

Ruth,
If there are enought Vancouver area people I could be a ship to site. As I could have them come to my Office. There is shippers/Recievers there all day.

J

props 02-10-2006 12:39 AM

i'm down for 2 l3 minis

Ruth 02-10-2006 01:57 AM

Just finished working 2 16hr days so don't want to figure it out tonight. I'll do it on the weekend and e-mail these guys and see how they want to set it up and if we have enough for a larger discount.

Ruth 02-11-2006 09:42 PM

OK so far I count 22 reflectors:
Ruth - 2
JasonMcK - 3
Reefhawk1 - 2
Muck - 4
Christyf5 - 2
dbDavid - 3
Psyire - 3
Props - 3

I have not broken it down for the mini's or the regular as I am pretty sure it doesn't matter what is ordered. For drop points we have JasonMcK for BC and Muck for Alberta.
Before I contact them to confirm prices for this is everyone sure and does anyone else want to jump in on this?
I'll contact them on Monday to see about shipping and payment details. My preference is that everyone just order their own and pay for their own and then they ship them bulk.

Gools 02-11-2006 09:46 PM

Once I find out prices, I might be down for a couple, but need a price first.

Ruth 02-11-2006 09:48 PM

See page 1 for prices.

Jason McK 02-11-2006 10:40 PM

Sweet Ruth thanks for organizing this.

Maybe we could have a code word when ordering like "Canreef" that would enter the order as the group buy

You Rock

Jason

props 02-11-2006 11:37 PM

just two for me pls

Delphinus 02-12-2006 05:03 AM

Ok put me down for 2 as well.

Not quite sure if the regular or the mini though, but hopefully I can decide by Monday..

Jason McK 02-14-2006 10:42 PM

Any word ?

J

Ruth 02-14-2006 11:09 PM

I will follow up with them tomorrow and post as soon as I hear back. It's not their fault though as I have been jammed at work and just unable to phone.

Jason McK 02-14-2006 11:34 PM

No worries Ruth. I'm just over anxious

muck 02-15-2006 12:09 AM

Sorry guys. Im going to have pull out of this order.
Too many things seem to need my money right now..

dbdavid 02-16-2006 01:55 PM

Hi Ruth, how are you making out with this order? Do you need some help with making arrangements?

Dave

OCDP 02-16-2006 04:31 PM

I have to ask,

What makes these reflectors so special? (Sorry if I missed that in the thread)

Ruth 02-16-2006 04:37 PM

Hope to hear back from them today and will post as soon as I hear.

All the cool people already use them ... get with it man! :p

No seriously, they're just a very clever design (multi faceted) that reflect more light into the tank than other reflectors. There is an analysis here:
http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issu...03/feature.htm

The only thing is they are very large. There is a "miniature" design though that is a little less obtrusive.

Do a search (here or RC or where-ever) on "lumenarc" (note that I think it's spelled with an 'e' not an 'i' - in case you don't find too many results try alternating the spelling. Some people may even be using two words, i.e., "lumen arc" so try that as well) and you should see some threads with discussions and/or pictures.

Thanks Tony!

I spoke with Luke at PGS about the group buy on Thursday - he was supposed to send me an e-mail but perhaps he forgot. I was hoping to just cut and paste his response but anyway - the jist of it is in order to get the group buy price it has to be paid for in one shot. I don't mind doing this it's just that I am getting ready to leave on Feb. 28th for 3 weeks holidays. I can't see this getting pulled together quick enough to do it before I leave as it would entail everyone getting their order to me - me getting price from Luke for each individual - me getting that total back to you - you getting the money to me - and me placing the order.
I think we have to look at a couple of options
- Wait until I return from holidays to pull together - everyone could post what they want and when I return I will get prices and collect $ and place order
- Someone else can pull order together - get prices - collect $ - place order

I have to go to Fort Nelson for a day and Calgary for a day and a half next week so will not have access to a computor (that I can check this site on) so LMK what you want to do.

If nobody comes forward to take over I am going to say that we will have to wait until I come back

Psyire 02-19-2006 10:14 PM

I'm in no real hurry and can wait.

christyf5 02-20-2006 12:44 AM

I can wait too
