How did you score?
How are your reef chemistry skills? Try this out, it takes a few minutes but you'll benifit from it. Make sure you let everyone know how you did, be honest now!

I sucked at Chemistry
|
I did that quiz a couple of days ago and got 40%. Most of that was lucky guesses not knowledge. If I had to score only the ones I really knew it would have been more in the 20% range.
|
Novice..
But if it aint broke don't fix it I say.. |
54% Apprentice Reef Chemist
|
Novice, but they missed all the good questions like:
If you add salt to water you get: A:Gasoline B:Beer C:Salt Water D:Cooking Oil |
reply
I got novice as well, but I'm curious who got the high score of reef chemist so far?
|
I want that 20 minutes back..
|
I made it to question 12 and realized I knew just about none of the answers.
I am pretty discouraged by this, I thought I knew enough to get by with. Obviously by the very rapid loss of a few SPS frags I had picked up, I feel I shouldnt be in this hobby. |
I'm a reefer not a chemist.

weird, did you notice 2 or 3 or the question answers give you a wrong result even though you were right... can some one post the %s again for the different scores, I want to know if it knocked me up another level if I take the errors into account
Steve |
Your score...
42 % Apprentice Reef Chemist my brain hurts now... |
My guesses got me 40% - I suck
|
Noticed that page a few days ago. Got through the first three questions and realized I didn't have a clue what the answers were, so I closed the page.
But I do know where to buy test kits and how to use them, I know where the Reef Chemistry Calculator is, and I know how to measure and add additives, so I'm more or less satisfied with my knowledge of chemistry  |

Apprentice Reef Chemist.... Lol, wow, I didnt know alot of that. Of the 21 I got right, 7 I had no idea, they were just "educated guesses" haha. But as for the 14 I knew, hurray for Chem! Lol. Chris |
I dont feel so bad, even the people I considered experts here had a few problems.
I think the questions are a bit to over the top. |
I got 48% ....
|
I got 30% it was hard
|
32%. Novice.
The question about the equation...ya I nailed that one. Cheers, |

chemist
To be fair, I did the test in one session (apx 20min), closed book.
I got 66%....reef chemist, not bad for 20yr old chemistry knowledge and no calculator:wink: BUT like most everyone else on Canreef I go to Bev's links for chem advice:mrgreen: |
Wow .. I never thought this possible, but one minute into the quiz I found myself thinking "I should go back to work, it's more fun than this."
At least my boss will be happy.. |
ha it's true! it was really really boring..
44 % Apprentice Reef Chemist |
38 % => Novice Reef Chemist
Of my 19 correct answers; 8 - I actually knew (or logically figured out) 11 - I gave my best SWAG* * Stupid Wild-A$$ed Guess Hmmm. Back to the books I guess. |
Yay 62... better than I thought...
I seemed to be stronger at the "organic" side than the "mathematical" side... Delbeek and Sprung, Tullock et all have taught me well... John - Calculator -> START-> Programs -> Accessories-> CALCULATOR! |
Novice. I was tempted a few times to get up and cheat, but didn't. I think if I had used the resources available to me (internet, books, etc.) I would have scored 100% (and lost about 3 weeks). That's how my own sucky knowledge has brought me so far!
Q. You solve your chemistry problems by: a. Asking someone else (Randy on reefcentral) b. Trial and error (on someone else's tank) c. Opening that chemistry textbook you took from grade 12 d. Praying for help from above e. All of the above |
94% but then again i am in school for organic and
analytical chemistry and thats the only reason i did so well |
Holy crud. Congrats!
I should be getting that as im planning to major in Major in Marine Biology, lol. Chris |
my brain hurts.
|
Know what the second most abundant ion in salt water is doesn't increase or decrease you ability to run a sucessful tank. I'll chalk one up for practical knowledge and experience over chemical book smarts any day.
I admit, it is good to know, but not necessary. ANd yes, I am making up excuses because I scored ridiculously low on the test. |
newbie =(
|
Novice. But that test made me feel like an idiot... :)
