i don't get it. one guy got a royal stripping of his hide cuz he posted a message that wasn't directly related to reefkeeping, but now we have Top News Stories?????

i don't come here for news, there's a billion other sites if i want to read about the state of the world. i thought this was meant to be a reef board, and given that one guy got slammed for posting a non-related message not so long ago, i cannot understand how anyone with a logical mind could rationalize that the World's Top Stories IS reef related. shane

I'm wondering if you guys want to sit back and re-read some of the things you post before posting. Try show some consideration when expressing opinions on the free BB you have here. Titus certainly didn't put the news links there to insult anyone.

Why not have the news stuff as a link to open up if you want to read it. Since we are allowed to have non reef related stuff in the lounge why not this?

Have it is a small link on the side that we can open up if we want it?

Darren and I were talking about it here today and came up with that idea.

Now that I am home I am going to say a few things here.

I would take Troy's advice and re-read what you have said here. Would you say those things to his face? In the tone it came across as? This site is being paid for by Titus and Titus alone. If you don't like how something looks why not ask for his reasoning behind what he has changed? A polite word goes a lot further than one said rashly. Put that whole thing in the context of your work and your boss has put up something that isn't related to your work but he/she felt it woudl imporve the workspace.. Do you walk up to him/her and say What the hell is this crap???? If you have a rapport with your boss that you can so be it. Most people don't. I never have. What makes it fair to say that here? Titus has GIVEN this site to us. He had an idea and you snap his head off.

Remember one thing. Who pays for this site? Titus... He has been gracious enough to let us have this board to share and keep in touch.

Titus put those news links up there to give us a few other things to look at. To spice it up as it were. Did these links hurt you? Why the attack on Titus? That is how this has come across to me and others it would seem.

IMHO a few people need to sit back, and think about what they are going to say before they say it. If you dont' know the reason it was done, ask, then once you have a reason to question it if you feel you have to and at least have some tact.

Do you think that this thread would go anywhere beyond your post on any other board? I don't.

I have NO idea what the @#($ anyone is talking about here. I don't see any news stuff anywhere. I was expecting to have pop-up windows and dancing girls, but I don't see anything.

Perhaps I have a special version of the BB?

my intention was not to antagonize, but to make a strong point: i recall that an individual posting a non-reef related message received severe criticism from some because it WAS non-reef related. this issue although some time ago, did really tick some people off. i was only annoyed at the time because some very experienced people were saying forget this i'll just go to another board. i think the biggest reason that was an issue was because of the way it was handled.

i reread my original message several times before posting...the opinion stated would have been expressed the same whether the BB was free or a fee based membership. i believe the matter of consideration is reciprocal toward the members of the board -- if there is to be a rule set in which non-reef related items are to be restricted to the lounge, then i believe that goes for all, not just some members. and this should not be exclusive of moderators or Titus.

as for the board, i fully recognize that Titus has established and maintains this board. try to remember though that the success of this board is a result of having good members -- if all the members disappeared there isn't much left.

don't get me wrong, i'm not insulted by the news links, it just troubles me when i see what i perceive to be a double standard. and i'm aware that Titus or the moderators could tell me to take a hike and don't come back, but i'm fairly sure i'm not the only one who was wondering why top news stories plastered on the sidebar is ok when an icbc question was not.

darren -- in response, of course i would repeat what i've said, it is an opinion. and the tone expresses my surprise / amazement that after such a big issue was made of that previous post re icbc, why not at least post a thread asking what people think of top news links. yes you and everyone has made it very clear titus is paying for this. and for that i certainly am appreciate, don't let anything cloud that fact.
but what has my boss got to do with a reef board???? it seems to me that titus put this board up with the hopes of drawing members and having a successful BB. i just don't see this as an issue of authority. if there are to be rules for some they should be for all.
i recall quietly reading the crap that when on about that icbc posting and being annoyed because i could see good people threatening to walk away from this site because of how that was handled. it may be your opinion that Marko didn't get a royal stripping, but that issue antagonized a number of people. reread some of the posts darren and you will likely see where i'm coming from.

anyway, i don't think this needs to carried on any further. retrospectively i should have reworded the topic title. but the rest is how i see it. shane

If you have a problem with something on the board or questions about the board post it in the lounge for now and I will ask Titus to make a forum where concerns etc. can be made.
