Is this one of the projects Brad mentioned awhile back? Meaning, did he make this?

The fancy air vent is Steve's own addition.

Silly question....

Weren't you running a skimmer while the tank was curing? (ahem, I mean clearing)

Aquattro 07-21-2002 03:07 AM

Andrew, Steve had fully cured rock when he started up. He prolly could have used one to clear the sand storm though. ;)

Brad do you have plans for the skimmer, or plans to post the plans somewhere? I ask because unfortunately around my area nobody has this style of skimmer, none of my LFS carry them (to my knowledge), so I can't just go somewhere easily and look at one to get dimensions and etc.

Tony, I am currently starting to build these skimmers for sale, so posting plans isn't in my best interest. The design is very simple and if you have any questions, send me an email and I can point you in the right direction.

Oh no, another one. Ok, so curiousity is getting the better of me, how much are you selling them for?

BTW, I don't know about it not being in your best interests to post the plans: most people who are going to NEED the plans are going to look at that and say "too much trouble to DIY." THEN they'll see on your website "... but you can purchase these from me at a nominal price ... " and they're going to go "cool, where do I send my money."

Just my $0.02.......

well I decided that it was time to clean my skimmer, it has been running for about 2.5 weeks and man what a stench when I opened it up.. to help show my point I have a couple pics

you can see the thick sludge that has coated the sides of the tubes. (I think my wife almost passed out when I was emptying the colection bucket in the bathroom.. :D )

http://members.shaw.ca/stircrazy/skimmer/skimclean1.jpg
http://members.shaw.ca/stircrazy/skimmer/skimclean2.jpg

so after it was all cleaned I put it back to geather and flashed it up.. less that 1 min after plugging it back in this is what it looked like. (in real life you can see that it was already starting to skim again.)
http://members.shaw.ca/stircrazy/skimmer/skimclean3.jpg

and 5 min after I plugged it back in...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">First..yes, another one. I don't see a problem with that.
Second..I don't think I can announce prices in this forum, but it starts with a 2
Third..Plans. I think that people who would actualy use the plans don't need the plans. People who can't build these already know they can't and don't want the plans. Basically the plans are on every DIY website on the net. An inch less here, an inch more there doesn't matter. Every skimmer manufacturer has a picture of their product....it's easy to figure out.
If it was in one's interest to post plans, you would see Canreef, Myreef, georeef and every other reef skimmer displayed in public. You don't. I offered to email you any help you needed. That's more than many will do. I have offered many tips to would be skimmer/reactor builders in the past. I also offered to do the "hard parts" for them. I think that's enough.
If you would like some help or specs, please send me an email.

$10000.00???? those cheap buggers. well you should just have told him where to go with his damn cheque. tell him to come look me up when he has the 10,000,000.00 cheque in my name!

StirCrazy 10-09-2002 01:28 AM

Just a update, the longer this skimmer runs the better it seams to do.. I cleaned it today (should have been done a week ago I figure) and with in 1 min it was skimming away again. thease pictures were taken about 1 min after I started it back up.

http://members.shaw.ca/crystalk/skimmerbubbles.jpg

you can see in the next pic just how fine of bubbles that this skimmer produces.

Hey Steve,

What pump are you using with that skimmer? I am getting (hopefully) the same setup from Brad. I haven't heard from him but if you talk to him let him know I want one. Thanks.

Talk to you later.

I think you need to readjust your skimmer; your collection cup is full of water.
