Reflector material
ok after being told that everbright is not available I started looking for new stuff..
what I found is sold as spectral aluminum and it works out to 6.50/square foot. problem is I have to buy a whole sheet if they are going to bring it in. I myself will be using a 3X3 peace and the sheet is 4X10. so who ever wants some let me know and we can figure this out. Steve |
Reflector material
I like to use reflective Mylar, you can usually buy it by the square foot.

Reflector material
what are you using mylar on? it melts when it gets to hot hehe... I was actualy looking at it but even the heat of a PC will soften it if it is to close so I am going with metal as I want the reflector to also be a support.

Reflector material
Steve, I have mylar sheet about two inches from my 400w MH...nothing's melting. It's been there for many months.

Reflector material
hmm realy.. maby I had cheep stuff a few years ago when I tried it. is there different grades?
Steve |
Reflector material
Steve, it's about 6mm thick and came from Industrial Plastics (i think).
Don't know about grades, it's all they had. |
Reflector material
Hey Steve,
I just spewed in another post about reflectors, take a look in "mirrors". You might want to reconsider using mylar. I'm not sure about it's emissivity, but I doubt it's as good as aluminum. Hope this helps. Gord |
Reflector material
I saw that Gord, thanks. I myself am using spectral aluminum but the problem is I have to buy a whole sheet to get it brought in.. I only need a 3x3 chunk out of the 4x10 sheet
so I need to know if all the people who were interested in getting some still want some. Steve |
Reflector material

Reflector material
how much are you selling it for steve? and could you bend it for me too? I would like to line the inside of my square hood, but angle the corners at 45° |/````\| kinda like that... the drawing is as detailed as you can get it with a keyboard. haha
|
Reflector material
hehe it is 6.50 / square foot including tax.
Steve |
Reflector material
Steve, I'll take some off you. Not sure what I need, but enough for one reflector anyways.

Reflector material
Steve,
I would like a piece roughly 11"x17" to fit in a 11x17 envelope. I will send you a cheque before you mail it to me. Check you email for my address. Thanks Clinton |
Reflector material
ok I ordered a sheet today, and I am picking it up saturday.
Clinton, I don't know if mailing it would be that good of a idea as it might get bent or creased. maby some one will be comming to the island or going to the mainland that could drop it off for you. Steve |
Reflector material
Ok I picked up the sheet of spectral alumium today, and for all you who want to see how reflective it is I tried to take a picture of it with my flash on.. you can see how weel it reflects by how much it darkened the rest of the picture by fooling my camera into thinking there was more light than it needed.

Reflector material
is it just a smooth aluminum finish?
shane |
Reflector material
No, Aluminum cannot be pollished to a mirror because it has a large particle size which makes it hard to get a smoth surface(if you waist your time tring it will soon dull from the oxadation again anyways) Spectral aluminum is coated with a film of something that will take the pollish and keep it. this is why AHsupply uses it and also spider lights are made of it.. the spider lights aare made from "everbright" which is a brand name of spectral aluminum.
