peppermint shrimp
When I asked @ LFS, they mentiioned at least 10 to start????
I am open to what local canreefers have had success with Dwight |
I have 3, maybe 4, (pretty rare to see all 4 at the same time, so one may have died, I think). Anyway, they keep my Aiptasia under control. It's a 135g tank.
HTH and cheers, |
2-3
if you are looking to control aptasia, get about 3. chances are at least one of them will eat it. i have a 180g system and i put 4 in there, i've never seen an aptasia for 9 months.

i have 1, he does a good job on control but wont go near the bigger ones.

what store would tell you that you need 10- 12 pep shrimp in a 70 gal?
If your tank is new you won't realy need them so soon. You may want to get a dozen astrea snails to help with film algea at some point. James at OA was going to try to get some in, but I am not sure if he has yet. Cheers |
HA ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Laughing at Wilow avatar that is too funny. It made my day, as I am sitting here in the desert and now I seen that That made my day ...right on sorry to jump on your thread guys.

Hm
Yeah, less will do fine...besides...is this a reef or a fish only system? I've heard of them occasionally nipping at corals. With that many of them mucking about, surely there is a chance of at least one of them being a nipper....

Thanks to all of you who passed on info.
Ended up going to J & L's & picking up 2-(two), not the suggested 10-12 from a downtown LFS, by by Aiptasia's   Dwight |
Dwight,
Just how far along is your tank? All I can say is that I wouldn't go back to whoever told you you needed 10 Peppermint shrimp - smells like someone cooking up a sale to me... did they try and sell you a Lionfish to go with? I just don't know what to say right now except do lots of reading - talk to us fellow Canreefers, and take it slowly... patience in this game isn't a virtue... it's necessary. |
peppermint/lionfish
reeferaddict,
I am now into my4th. week of cycling, purchased a box of L/R from OA which was incredible & also approx. 15 lbs. of established rock 3yrs.(the reason for Joe's Juice) old + live sand. Going thru the algae bloom & lots of brown/red agae growing. The Kenya tree coral is thriving & also the blue/purple mushroom colony. Lookng good. Dwight |
Dwight,
Now is the time to deal with the aptaisia once and for all.... If they haven't spread everywere, I would remove the offending pieces of rock and re-cure them... IMO Peppermint Shrimp are good for small ones, but established larger ones are a pain... i have but one... squirted him 3 or 4 times now... and he's getting BIGGER! I'm taking out his rock and going to put him in an epoxy grave... Way easier to deal with now than after you get 2 grand worth of corals for them to eat... Just my 2 bits... |
aptaisia
Just completed a through check on all the rocks for the pests & have just found 2 small ones, will keep a close look out & JOE them
Thanks for the heads up Dwight |
