xenia dead? *with pic*

I got a big xenia, and it has come off its rock, looks almost like it tore off it... its laying flat not opening up.... still moving quite a bit though.... is it beyond the point of no return?

thx

I wouldnt think so, xenia is pretty tough. try and prop it on some l/r it should re-attach.

Like kellehar said,

It'll probably come back fine. I had a piece just a couple of weeks ago that got knocked down underneath a large rock for a few days (while I was away) so it shrivelled up to a spec practically and came loose from the rock, I superglued (gel) back to a rock and its opening up again. MUCH smaller than before but it looks like it'll come back.

I'm sure your's will too if especially since its still moving.

I have had xenia come off rock before and it was because it was placed where there was too much water movement. Put another rock right next to the back of the xenia where it is still attached and it should attach to the new rock. It might help to move the rock to a lower flow area in the tank first.

ok its partially attacked to the rock, torn half way off and it looked like my blue lobster was trying to eat some of it.. i'll get a pic later.

should i cut it off the rest?

I really hope it recovers as it was a big beautiful one... here's the pic of it before i bought it. its one of the two xenias in the pic.

If you think the lobster ate it, I'd remove the lobster.

id say, get someone to mount that xenia up for you either glue it, etc.. or try and stand it up somehow/lean it up.. it doesnt look too bad to me at all.... i think once its stood up and not buried in the sand it will start opening up nicely for you

The xenia looks fine, just prop it up and let it heal or if its detacked sew it onto a new rock. The only way to kill xenia is have a heater malfuntion and send 200 watts of current through the water so the xenia melts in front of your eyes or you have a coral beatuy that eats every head on it ( any any new ones that grow) (both things have happened to me)

ok..cool..sounds like it will recover....

adidas 08-23-2005 01:33 AM

well i tried to move it a bit to prop it up, peices are now floating all over the tank, its guts are hanging out one of the torn open peices...

i dont think it will recover.. what should i do?? :frown:
