i'm going to assume it's an expansion of his store. :D

better not be missing any of the boy's baseball games for it.

saltcreep 06-20-2005 09:14 PM

Here is the Monster!

It's our new RK2 skimmer.

http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...ited_1-med.JPG

Just as a reference...that's my daughter standing beside it.

Beverly 06-20-2005 09:23 PM

Your daughter is very sweet

That skimmer IS a monster

saltcreep 06-20-2005 09:27 PM

Don't always let looks fool you. She is exactly like me...scary.

As for the skimmer, that is the larger of the two we received. It is only 8' tall and uses a 1/2 hp pump just to drive the venturi. The discharge outlet is 3" pipe. I can't wait to get both running. This one is for a brand new system and the smaller one is to replace an ETSS skimmer.

Invigor 06-20-2005 09:44 PM

holy shat. that skimmer probably holds more water than most of us have in our tanks :|

Tom R 06-20-2005 10:16 PM

If thats your skimmer what size is the tank?

saltcreep 06-20-2005 10:17 PM

We calculated the water volume at about 140 gallons (give or take a couple). Oh ya..it has an electronic interval timed spray down system to clean it.

saltcreep 06-20-2005 10:19 PM

Tom,

This is for a new system that will be about 3500-4000 gallons and heavily stocked.

Delphinus 06-20-2005 10:36 PM

Here is the younger brother.

OCDP 06-21-2005 12:03 AM

that's insane.. definitely the biggest i've ever seen.

if you don't mind me asking.. as i am very curious.. how much does a monster like that cost you ?

rickjames 06-21-2005 12:14 AM

 Going to have a serious case of skimmer envy now.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, they are great.

ONLY?! Lol.

I've seen 8ft skimmers, but that looks like quite the fancy contraption, especially with self cleaning ability!

So your running a store tank system with those skimmers?

Chris

Gringos 06-21-2005 01:02 AM

Now thats a skimmer.

Quinster 06-21-2005 01:53 AM

Sweet Lord!

saltcreep 06-21-2005 02:23 AM

They are nice, I have to admit. I was like a 6 year old at Christmas when they showed up last week. Needless to say, I was late getting home that day.

As for cost...let's just say quite a bit...but should be worth every penny. We are using RK2 fluidized sand bed filters (8' x 10") and have noticed an immediate difference in our water quality. Generally you get what you pay for. We have been using ETS 2000 so far with excellent results but want to step it up a bit for our summer expansion.

FF14 - we are running a wholesale operation that will total about 10,000 gallons by summer's end.

These aren't the biggest RK2 builds either. Most of the large wholesale companies in Los Angeles are running skimmers that are at 50% larger. If I can find a old picture of one I'll post it.

props 06-21-2005 02:35 AM

umm i'm 5'11" and ummm can i sleep inside and what it feels like to be swished around like a bubble?

Will The average shmo be able to purchase anything from you? or are you supplying only retail stores?

saltcreep 06-21-2005 03:58 AM

Retail only. Although, we are working on a new program to make our stock more accessible to the hobbyist. We are working out some problems that we have with it ourselves. We won't sell direct to the hobby, as we have to support our retail customers, but are looking at a partnership shall we say. Not that this relates to the thread, but any ideas would be great.

Invigor 06-21-2005 04:07 AM

how about to local reef clubs with a minimum order of a few hundred dollars or something? I'd be game for that, I'd take your stock over the next guy's since I've seen probably about $30k worth of fish come from you.

what media are you using in your fluidized sand beds? is it silicate based?

zulu_principle 06-21-2005 04:07 AM

Sweet

What the height and diameter of the main chamber?

Wendell

saltcreep 06-21-2005 04:11 AM

Wendell,

I think it's about 24" across and about 6' tall. I was wanting the full acrylic model but was able to pay for the small one with the difference in price. I also think we are going to upgrade all our pumps to RK2 as well. Whisper quiet.

possitive k 06-21-2005 06:13 AM

holy crap  that is one hell of a skimer! i would love to see a pic of the tank thats running

:)

Veng68 09-07-2005 05:30 PM

Does RK2 have a website?

I remember they used to but it does not seem to be working anymore.

Cheers,
Vic [veng68]
