so it seems like the avatar has raised concerns that it is offensive. while i received a pm 2 months ago stating the admins didn’t have a problem with it they said they did have a complaint from one individual and asked if i would change it. i decided after some contemplation that it was not offensive and said if were all the same i would rather keep my avatar than change it for the benifit of one individual. now two months later i have received an ultimatum that i change my avatar or have my membership canceled.

well if you guys don’t see me around it was great hanging out and getting a chance to see everyone at the meets and at the shops. take care you are a great bunch of guy/girls.

I did not make the original complaint, but I do think your avatar is offensive, as are one or two others out there. Hope you change your avatar and stay on the board, but of course, it's your choice what to do given the circumstances.

Are you serious!!!! Thats #*%@* It seems things on the board are taking a slid in a diferent direction. Sorry to here about this Willow. I hope it doesnt come to that. :confused:

but seriously, its a teddy bear, with its hands in its pants. So, it is a little "low-brow", but wouldn't call it offensive!

I didn't even notice what it was for the longest time. I thought the bear was holding a knife or something. The resolution is so low. Anyhow, I am more offended by people telling me what kind of a tank I need for certain animals than I am by that avatar.

willow, i love you bear! it's just goofy. there are things written on the board that i take more offense to then i do to a funny bear. good luck!

This is an aquarium board, and thats an avatar. Whats so hard about changing it, even if only offends a couple of members. Perhaps to now make a statement or what? I dont understand?

Its also unbelievable that we even have to post in a thread like this.

This board is a privately owned and opperated and is going to be the way the admin and mod's want it to be.

Love it or leave it, that's just the way it is.

Also I don't understand why you'd even bother to make a thread about it.(This is not a democracy with a majority vote deciding on the fate of your teddy.)

If they said it was okay last week and it isn't today, suck it up and get used to it.

OR

Make your own privately owned site and use whatever avatar you wish.

I say just suck it up and change it. There are many things in our society that we don't like but that's the way it is. It's like at my work we are not aloud radios(on a construction site!) I think it's absolutely ridiculous but I abide by the rule because I would rather keep my job but hey it's your choice.

And as for the board..the simple fact is the board is a priviledge you either accept or refuse.It has rules we either choose to abide to,or not.Your call,but this is a pretty cool board,with a bunch of cool people..hope you weigh out the pros and cons and decide its worth it to stay.

What doesn't offend one person may offend someone else. What is the point in debating whether your avatar "IS" offensive? Someone asked you to change it, maybe out of consideration (rather then having to be told to do it) you would just change it and move on...

But whatever, I guess it is your call, stay on this FREE board full of great resources or keep the bear picture. :rolleyes:

the point of this thread was not to start an open debate on my avatar but to say ive been told im going to be banned and here is the reason. ive told troy i don't want to change my avatar as i don't see it as being offensive/disrepectful/racist/sexual. i am fully aware this is a private community and it's a privalage to be a part of it. i also posted this in the vancouver forum and not in the lounge.

Well I guess it comes down to one thing.

This is Titus' board. He set out the rules and has people like Troy here keeping it in order.

You have been asked to change it, and IMO IME what the staff/owner of a board decide is what the people using the resource have to follow. Easy as that. By registering your name on here you agreed to follow the rules as set out by Titus. This is a private forum as you have said. So where do you feel that gives you the right to tell a staff member to pound sand and not follow his direction?

All I see of all of this is that you are aiming to get as much drama going as possible and for what? Organise a coup d'etat? An uprising? Oh I know. A rebellion :rolleyes:

Might be. A position opened up at Fleet Maintenance Facility to work on HMCS Victoria.

I've applied but I have the distinct feeling that the advertisement is just a formaility as they have "designed" the position for someone who is already there working but they have to advertise it so as to meet the legal requirements. A typical government/military hiring. :lol: I am over qualified in many respects as far as education and training go but one job requirement is three years experience with the class of sub. And unless you are someone retiring who worked on them in England that isn't going to happen. :lol: Like I said. Typical govt/military hiring practices. Create your own position just before you retire, advertise it and hire yourself.

This isn't a debate. I personally don't care about the rest of the web. Much of it is trash. I don't like my kids on it for the most part. This board is about reefkeeping not about your civil liberties and freedom to express off colour humour. If you find a child's toy fondling itself nice to look at then power to you. There are site's for that kind of thing. Go use them. I hear that most of them charge though.

This thread has outlived it's usefullness. Those of you who want to console Willow, please continue to do so in PM and e-mail: preferably e-mail, let's not waste bandwidth on this. If anyone would like to send me nasty PMs about censorship, feel free.

I never noticed the bear.

Anyway it's a private board. I like 90% of things about this board and I don't like 10%. I am not about to start a new board on my own, too much effort.

So, just like if you showed up at my house wearing a revealing outfit or with an offensive logo on a T-shirt, or smoking pot, I would ask you to leave. Being on this board is like visiting someone else's house, guests should comply with the wishes of the host.
