Temperature

What temp are you keeping your tanks at?
I have read so many conflicting suggests.
The New Marine Aquarium by Michael Paletta suggests 74-76F
I have seen people run between 79-83F

Whats best?

muck 05-19-2005 11:35 PM

79°F - 80°F for me.

Beverly 05-19-2005 11:41 PM

78F to 80F in our three tanks.

Thank you

79-81 for me or it starts costing lots of money and gets loud.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 05-20-2005 02:46 AM

Same temp range as Willow.

OCDP 05-20-2005 03:09 AM

me three

Aquattro 05-20-2005 03:11 AM

79 most times, but I'll kick it up to 92 when my chiller fuse blows. Not recommended for long term temp though...

trilinearmipmap 05-20-2005 03:20 AM

80 to 82 degrees.

I read an article online a while back, I think there is a link off RC or its magazine, that says real reef temperatures are in the low 80's.

Rikko 05-20-2005 03:37 AM

I shoot for 77-78, that way if the heater goes and sticks on I have a little more time to notice it before things start getting nuked.

blood_hound 05-20-2005 04:07 AM

I keep the temp in my tank around 78-82 degree.

vanreefer 05-20-2005 05:36 AM

79 firm... Brad I might try that chiller thing... short term only eh?

Jack 05-20-2005 05:39 AM

I run at 80°F.

Ya, make sure you're at work when you blow the fuse. That way you get a warm welcome when you get home!

Willow 05-20-2005 05:57 AM

or get a chiller that dosent run on fuses.

Jack 05-20-2005 06:00 AM

Brad do you run the chiller inline with your return pump? Also, try increasing the differential it will make a difference in fuse consumtion.

Ya, but then life is just the same everyday. And since I already have chiller, throwing it away becasue it runs on fuses might not be the best plan.

sumpfinfishe 05-20-2005 08:32 AM

between 78-80 for me too, anything warmer and it means less ice for my rye and coke and more for the sump

Jack, no, I have dedicated pump. The differential is set to 4 degrees, that's the max. I don't blow fuses like I used to, but every now and then, poof!

Murminator 05-20-2005 05:32 PM

80-83 here

Geez.

I keep my tanks at 79.0. I have had problems with the heaters sticking on and have recently purchased a Medusa Controller. It is fantastic. As my tanks are in the basement I have not had a requirement for cooling so far.

My tank jumps from 78 at night to 82 with the halides on, it will go higher if the fan does not go on.
