Your tanks always impress me Bev - very nice

Beverly 05-17-2005 02:06 PM

Thanks, Ande

Do maintenance on it weekly, including siphoning out detritus while doing a 15% water change. Pics of the crud we siphon out each week...

First pail of crud (siphoning out areas around the rock structurre):

Second pail of crud on right (turkey basting the crud from under the rock structure and moving it to the back of the tank, then siphon it out) compared to a pail of NSW:

What lighting do you have above that tank Bev?
The whole tank looks fairly pink to me. (Maybe its just my computer monitor... )

Willow 05-17-2005 03:07 PM

isn't that your new cap tank that was supposed to have no fish?

Beverly 05-17-2005 03:32 PM

Ryan,

Yes it is pinkish. Lighting is two URI Aquasun VHOs and two URI Super Actinic VHOs on the tank. Over the weekend, changed the tubes to one URI Aquasun VHOs, one URI Super Actinic VHOs and two URI 50/50 VHOs. Here's a pic of the new lighting from this morning:

Willow,

Can't remember which one I originally said was going to be the fishless, cap tank. When all was said and done, decided the 37g would be better fishless, so I made it into the cap tank. Pic of it as of last week. Tank is very blue. Lighting is one ARC 14000K MH:

Siphon a lot of crud out of this tank too. All rock in the 37g has been newly cured and is still probably still shedding a bit of dead stuff, even though I swished the rock in changewater 2-3 times during curing. This tank was set up when the 67g was set up.

Wow seeing that crud makes me think BB may be the way to go... sheesh...

Bev, are those all 1 piece chunks of rock? I've never been able to fine such obscure and interesting pieces, they look really cool.

Holy clean tanks Batman
methinks weekly maintenance is the way to go... maybe I'll work up to it

Beverly 05-17-2005 08:25 PM

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone

Danny,

The 37g has about 6 main pieces of rock. I hand pick all my rock from the lfs for shape and size and take into consideration what it is I am trying to accomplish in a particular tank. However, once I get the rock home, cure it and get it into the display tank, the aquascaping never comes out quite the way I envisioned it at the lfs weeks earlier.

Doug (BCOrchidGuy),

Kind of an eye opener to see all that crud in those buckets, eh? This amount comes out of the 67g EVERY WEEK  I can't imagine going back to having a sandbed - not after going BB and being able to siphon out this much potential algae and cyano problems.

BTW, it takes both me and my husband to do the water changes and siphoning on our three tanks. At first, I didn't think we would be able to work together on it, but with lots of direction, Chris has become an excellent helper

Dano,

We've got the weekly maintenance down to a science  Now I've got to get the water chemistry stuff down pat for each tank and I'll consider myself a master

albert_dao 05-17-2005 09:54 PM

Whoa... You have really nice rocks!

kuatto 05-17-2005 10:31 PM

Once again you create a master piece
