Anyone know a reputable GSD breeder

In a perfect world it would be the Monks of New Skete....

I think it's going to be the next pup as we had one before that was unfortunately short lived.

GSD?

German Shepherd Dog

I'm sure you know this, but I'll give you my two cents anyway. Be real careful selecting your breeder. This breeds has been nearly ruined by overbreeding and "show" line breeding.

Even the German police are starting to use other breeds

When I went looking for a dog I wanted a German Shepherd. I was warned that the are so inbreed at this point you never know what you are getting.
The police have started using other dogs because they are becoming more and more unpredictable and leave the handler with little or no control when the snap.
As good as these dogs have been over the years I felt it was not worth putting one with my kids, so I bought a mutt instead.

I love my GS. She is about 9 years old. She has had problems with her hips, we ended up giving her injections a couple years ago, after a month, she seem to be really good... most gental dog I ever have known.

I'm looking at a breeder that supplies the police canine unit. Troy, perhaps you can run this kennel name by the fellow you spoke of ?

Yes, backyard breeders have ruined many breeds. One of the most important things we believe in is having a lifetime temperament and common health problem guarantee. That of course comes with a price. In the big picture of things tho, not really.

Deb, I have no idea. I just know a guy from hockey that trains police dogs.

blood_hound 05-15-2005 01:59 AM

I have a female GS if there someone who has a pure breed male maybe we can arrange something. My dog is almost 2 years old and still a virgin

Did you actually buy a registered GSD with breeding rights? This is exactly what isn't good for a breed.

Ryan 05-15-2005 04:55 AM

Personally I would go with the Sherman Shepard who dont make police acedamy they suposidly make the best pets.

kuatto 05-15-2005 05:31 AM

Years back when I was looking for a Rotti,I called the Alberta Kennal Society and they gave me a list of the top breeders in the province, might be worth a try.

Well I did not buy it.My dog was given to me as a gift and she is from the US other than that I don't have much information on where she came from and I don't know anything about breeding right.
