Feeding

I was wondering how everyone does there feeding. eg. Do you turn off your powerheads? Do you turn off your skimmer? Return pump?

I tried feeding Formula 1 today and my skimmer went nuts.. Anyone know why?

I drop food in the tank. My skimmer doesn't change at all regardless of what I feed, even mysis.

i actually turn on an extra powerhead when i feed and i don't have a skimmer. the fish love chasing the food down and the extra current keeps uneaten food suspended untill something catchs it. usually i feed flake once a day and a mysis mix sometimes with prime reef mixed in soaked it all in garlic and zoe. i make enough up for a few days and drop an eyedropper full in the afternoon and evening. corals get feed a few times a week with cyclopeze and mysis as well as some dt's.

I just drop food in, mysis stops the skimmer from foaming for a while but I don't shut it off

Flake, pellets ?

Sorry, flakes... skimmer overflows like mad!

Hmm, I'll look.

Nothing here much likes the Formula 1 flake for some reason. I keep trying to pass it off on the trigger, but he'll take the formula 2 or spirulina over that. Usually any feeding stops my skimmers, but I haven't really looked when feeding that so I will.

I target feed my seahorses & jawfish with a turkey baster & I don't have any protein skimmers so, nope don't make any special changes.
My FOWLER gets their meals straight from the freezer.

I squirt most of the mysis into the output of my surge with a turkey baster as carefully as I can.. When the surge fires it sends food everywhere. Guess it depends on what you're feeding though. I've got fish, cleaner shrimp, pistol shrimp, nassarius snails bursting from the sand bed, corals plucking at it, you name it. I guess if you're specifically just trying to get a little food to your fish you'd want less current.

I wish I could drive one of those.

I drop the food in as well, I figure whatever the fish don't eat will be consumed by the reef crew. My skimmer also shuts down for a whil after feeding mysis. Gotta wonder if there is that much fat in the food, if it really is all that good for the fish.

im pretty sure the fat is whats keeping them alive.
