DIY top off?
Can anyone recommend a good diy top off system?
I have an electric float switch ( not sure how to hook that up ) pwr heads etc. or I could also run a gravity fed system or drip system. Is there a fullproof top off system? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks |
Hi Kallum
My gravity system work fine. You are welcome to take another look. Tom R |
Hi Tom,
Thanks, I'll have to swing by sometime and take another look. I'm not sure which system is better for me only because of the limitted space I now have. We'll have to set something up soon. cheers. |
gravity feed thru an abs float valve is the way to go.

Thanks John,
Call me or pm me so you can tell me about this type of setup. |

Call me I would like to see your set up. We can then discuss your top off problems. Tom R |
This is the system I used and it works pretty good for me so far, about 1yr.
I only have a 55Gal with a 5Gal top off jug, if you have a bigger tank you might want something else. http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/dos...a/aa072298.htm Den |
Im a fan of the gravity feed thru a humidifier float valve for 20$ you have a topoff system that will last for years

Thanks for all your help folks....
Tom, I'll give you a call this week. |
Wow. I just realized my nano evaporates about 10% a day. That's pretty brutal.. Nothing like a swing from 1.024 to 1.029 to **** off your critters (which in this case is a piece of algae). I'm probably going to build a simple gravity topoff tomorrow.. Thinking about using one of those Kent float switches. Anybody used them? Horror stories?

ok I was asked to post some info on my top-off so here it is.
First off i used two switchs. Just in case a snail crawls from the main tank past the overflow into the sump and on into the fiug and cralws on one of the floats lol. here they are. http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...035switchs.jpg This is the splice where they are connected to the powerhead. the idea is very simple. the water drops. the float drops with it. as it drops it completes the connection and turns on the powerhead. http://www.canreef.com/photopost/dat...1035splice.jpg It then turns on the PH i have in my top off bucket. I have connected a john gues hose to the outflow of the pump. When the pump turns on it pushs the water into my kalk reactor. http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/1035pump.jpg the hose goes into my kalk reactor. http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/1035feed.jpg That feeds out another john guest hose into my fuge. If you dont have a kalk reactor then just feed it right into your sump. http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/1035exit.jpg |
