refugium idea (Will this work)

i am working on girlfriends tank and I want to put a fuge on it . It is a 30g tank but it is not drilled.

So I got this Idea of using 2 pum, 1 is for return and the other is for sucking water from the display tank .

Will this work? has anyone try doing this setup?

Assuming pum is pumps just think if one stops water is going to overflow the tank or the fuge depending on which one stops.....unless you put in float switches to shut them down so they will not over fill.

Its a bad idea to use two pumps because you can never tell if one pump will be stronger than the other (even though they are the same model).

The best way would be to have the fuge above the tank, have one pump pump water into it and have it overflow into the display tank below.

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
All it needs is one pump to get clogged just a little and you get a tank overflowing.
IMO do not go that route!!

Nope, it won't work because it will be impossible to exactly synchronize both pumps exactly, so you're pretty much guaranteed a flood almost right away.

What I'm planning to do is to drill my refugium, set it above the tank, pump up into it with a small power head & let it gravity flow down into my main tank. That way if power goes out, it will only drain the top couple of gallons into a much bigger tank & risk of flooding is minimized.

arrgh. We're all back in grade 9 math class....
"if pump A pumps at 2.3 gph and pump B at 6 gph, then how long...."

lol.

So its a big NO. I think I should drill the tank then . Thanks for the answers guys.

A large Aquaclear (500), with a clip on lamp also works well for a fuge on this size tank.

Or try an overflow

I seen some designs where the used PCV with 2 90's on it and made it square rather than a U. I also seen one where they used the siphon tude from an AC filter.
