I think it will be nearly impossible for you to maintain the kind of stability and water quality the anemone needs in a bucket. Did someone tell you that keeping it in a bucket for a while was a good idea?

The water changes should help, but as far as temp, salinity, oxygenation, PH, and lighting go you're really fighting an uphill battle. Trying to be sensitive to your plight here, but that's not a good place for a carpet.

im also runing an air stone temps good id put it in the sump but i havee a little amonia problem in it from dy off . i am hoping to have the tank together by tommorrow night then he can go back to his home .

That looks like a classic grab for oxygen. Water movement, airstones, and clean water. Good luck!!

do i dare put him into my 150 to try and save him i wont have enought water in the 230 till tomorrow night to have sand and rock in it and the overflow wont be working yet eather .

air it

Looks like someone is about to loose some money, that sucks

It's a judgment call, I suppose, Aaron.. Can your 150g take it on? If it was me I might consider it. The 230 is probably not going to be all that stable right away.

It's a hardy anemone. I would think the thing right now is to make sure it has access to highly oxygenated water (white with bubbles). If you think the 230 can be made ready today then see how it goes. You have plenty of rock to help combat the ammonia spike?

golden69_ca 04-05-2005 06:32 PM

the 150 has around 200lbs of rock and a 4 to 6 inch sand bed so it could handle the carpet ok id think id have to make a litle room for it .

Why not leave it in the bucket. Drill a bunch of holes in the bucket, keep the Powerhead in there and float the bucket in your 150?

golden69_ca 04-06-2005 04:55 AM

if i was to float it in the 150 would ther be a chance that the carpet would try to put his foot through the holes .

he is looking better tonight did a 3/4 water change on the bucket this morning going to do anouther 1/4 to 1/2 tonight also added 2 more airstones .

If it was a shallower bucket you wouldn't need the holes. But you need to take care what you put in your tank also, bucket-wise... not so clean on the outside usually.

Glad to hear it seems to be doing better.

golden69_ca 04-07-2005 04:44 AM

did a 3/4 water change this afternoon was able to get all junk out of bucket . now he looks like he is done eating a fish not much showing . i think i wil keep up this way till the 230 is up . got half the plumbing done missing parts could not contiue so i started on electrical got 2 gfi curcits pulled one above the tank for lighting and one under tank for pumps . still need to pull one more .

thanx for all the advice

My biggest concern about the bucket is the lack of oxygen exchange. That big open mouth thing is an attempt to get at any lingering O2 in the water column. So keeping that water clean and agitated and staying the course. It's probably not that uncommon a symptom of shipping stress. As long as it gets it O2 and doesn't suffer any damage I would think (hope) it comes around.

Good luck with the rest of the tank build and keep us informed how it goes..
