Is this a Halide?
Found this light at work, and am not sure if it's a halide or not. Anyone tell for sure? There is no writing anywheres on the bulb. Won't be usin this light but would like to use the ballast and socket if they are halide. Can post a pick of them as well if that will help. Thanks and hope someone can help.

I am not 100% sure but it looks like a high watage MH eather 400W or 1000W.

Hard to say, looks like it could be.Do you have pics of the ballast and socket?Try to get pics of all the labels on the ballast to see if its "tri tap"meaning you could wire it up under differant voltages.

looking at the glass length compared to the socket length I would doubt it is a high wattage one but I could be wrong (just looks small). My guess would be a 50 watt or 75 watt MH but unless there is some labels on the ballast we won't know.

I could be nuts, but it sure looks like a HPS bulb to me.

take another pic and put a toonie or $5 bill or something to give an idea of lenght - we have some massive mh bulbs at work for the lot that i wouldn't think of putting over a tank due to heat. Some camera shots can make things bigger or smaller depending. Personally i have no idea  but i thought i would throw that in

Hey man is this the light you were talking about using? The ones u got from work for the big tank? We have bulbs like this at school we use them over our hydroponics. for "Oregano" lmao

Thanks for the replies peeps!!! Ryan yea these were what I was talkin about, well at least one of them. And yes that does explain alot if your growin the gungi!!!!!
Ok heres a couple more pics of the ballast thats in it and a shot of the bulb with a tape measure. Sorry it's early and I'm still asleep!!! I fired this thing up at work and IT IS bright!! The only info I found on it it is that is 250 watt. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...Picture297.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...Picture295.jpg |
Looks like a magnetic ballast, and if its a 250 watt, then its probaly an M58 model. If you clean it up and install a another 250 watt bulb of a higher "k" rating then your good to go.Those industrial bulbs usually fall in the range of 4200-4500 k.

holy scary looking light batman

is that a street lamp it is in? if so it is a murcury vapor. not a MH, 6" just looks to small to be a MH but it is a HID at anyrate.
Steve |
There's no writing at all on the ballast itself?
|
I think hes stealing street lights  If it ends up being a MH ive got a street light infront of my house that may need repair soon

Geez I didn't even notice that it's in a street light fixture. Steve's right, those are Mercury Vapour. You might be able to run Iwasaki bulbs in it though (am I the only one who still uses Iwasaki ??? )

That look like a pretty sweet reflector though, all molded and shiney. Ditch the bulb and by a higher K rating.

Yep its a street light,an old school street light. I read somewhere that the old ones had MH lights. There are some more lyin around at work so if anyone wants one I can take them apart or deliver you a street light!!!!!
Gonna try and find a bulb to fit it and try it out. After I take it all apart. Thanks for the replies!! |
