Skimmer Questions!

Were is the best place to buy a Beckett Nozzle....I am building a beckett skimmer but don't know were to find a beckett nozzle.....Also How much do they run for approx?

Corey 03-24-2005 10:00 PM

Canadian Tire has them for 14.99

kari 03-24-2005 10:38 PM

The crappy tire one is a knock-off of the Beckett foaming fountain nozzle I believe. The OD dimensions are the same on the ends yet there is a slightly smaller ID on the inlet end. Just tried one on a Little Giant-4 and it works very well IMO. Maybe the Beckett version will hit the shelves at Rona or HD this month, maybe.

My understanding is the Beckett line of pond foamer has been discontinued, so we're not likely to see them back. The knock offs should do a fine job though...

I think you can get a beckett with a pre-built PVC housing on ebay.

KrazyKuch 06-19-2005 02:26 AM

What is the size of the opening needed for a beckett to sit in??

i.e how tall is it without measureing the two ends where it gets attached if that makes any sense!!

medican 06-19-2005 02:13 PM

Try this

How do you measure the capacity that a skimmer is good for????

titus 06-24-2005 04:19 AM

Hello,

Have you considered using a Mazzei? They have better availability and engineering data available. Also you can get them in the sizes you want.

Here is a link to the Mazzei performance curves on different pumps:

Titus

KrazyKuch 06-24-2005 05:40 AM

Can you suggest a web page that will show me how to make one!!

mr_alberta 06-24-2005 05:52 AM

Mazzie injectors supposedly perform quite well, but the larger ones are costly.

Titus makes some pretty sweet mazzie skimmers. You can see them on a link on the left there.

KrazyKuch 06-24-2005 05:19 PM

I just want a DIY Mazzei Injector I say one once but I can't find it anymore

hey harvey do you know how to calculate what size a tank I can use my skimmer on??

mr_alberta 06-24-2005 05:59 PM

I'm not 100% sure how skimmer ratings are calculated to be honest

The only method I know of is to calculate the skimmers GPH rating:
4 turnovers per hour x tanks capacity in gallons = GPH rating. How they go from this rating to actual gallons in the tank, I'm not too sure. I guess if you knew the GPH rating of your pump you could solve for the tank capacity, but I'm not sure if it is as simple as that (but that's what I do).

KrazyKuch 06-24-2005 10:15 PM

My main chamber of my skimmer is 20" and is made of 6" PVC and I am using a Quiet One Pump Rated at approx 1100 GPH!!
