car audio buff

is there anyone here that works in a stereo shop or something rather and can offer me a solution to buying a cd changer for my vw golf from the vw dealership or running an aftermarket one. I understand there are "adapters" so you can control the cd changer from the stock head unit?

it's a 2003 vw golf.

Thanks!

Dude I have a 2004 VW GOlf and I bought the Phat Noise from VW....$50 more then their cd shuttle($570) It is basically an MP3 player and can store about 500 cd's(4000 songs)(20gig hard drive) and it works awesome!!

do you have the monsoon headunit or the bare bones one?

KrazyKuch 02-28-2005 04:28 AM

I got just the bare one but the Phat Noise works for both systems....I also upgraded my car with 2 10" subs(800Watts total) !!!!!

oh oh, where'd you get the rca adapters for your amps?

KrazyKuch 02-28-2005 04:53 AM

They aren't done through RCA's cause VW decks don't have them....I had to splice onto speaker wires to get the signal for my amps!!!

Invigor 02-28-2005 04:54 AM

yea, but didn't you use a converter for that?

I am confused if you are using the hole signal from the rear speakers then are you runing a crossover or just a bass amp. I would think that that would also suck the porer from the rear speakers. that seems like it would take some fine tuning on the deck and amp to get that right.

Splicing into the wire wont really effect the rear speakers, its just sharing the signal not taking the power, the power would have to be supplied by an aftermarket amp most likly to power the subs. I love my car audio, i sold my system 4 months ago, and today just started buying another.

KrazyKuch 02-28-2005 06:17 AM

No converter needed....my amps have inputs for it....as do all amps!

and it doesn't take any power from the speakers it just samples the signal and then boosts it for my Subs

Hey all. . . just wanted to tag along . . . I currently have a alpine system in my car . . . its loud alright but can go louder . . . what are your opinions on these

1-12" sub or 2-10"'s??? LMK!!

PS what are the best subs without the high cost??? (somewhere in the middle range) Thanks

Quinster 02-28-2005 11:59 AM

the option between 1-12" sub or 2-10"'s depends on what type of bass you are looking for. From a 12" it is possible to get enough low bass to shake your molars loose but 10's offer a tighter more responsive sound. I used to run 2 12” in my car and now am running 2 10”….getting old I guess…lol

KrazyKuch 02-28-2005 04:59 PM

Also depends on the type of vehicle you are putting them in....MTX seems to be good at a resonable price!!!

Invigor 02-28-2005 06:38 PM

if you can find a friend to get you some alpine type-rs at cost, go that route, they are incredible! I have the 10" size type-r and was floored when I heard it compared to my previous 2 12" phoenix golds.

my amp does have a "high in" spot come to mention it..maybe I'll try wiring it onto that.. :)

thanks.

I used to have alpine subs type r 12s but i found flaws in them ive steped up to 10" JL audio subs W3v2, the two tens are way louder then the type R 12"s. JL makes amazing stuff, im powering my stuff with a JL audio 300/4 and a 500/1, Alpine makes great head units and speakers there subs are decent as well, but there amps suck, there rating are so misleading, whatever alpine says there amps run at cut it in half at least. So for me and you if you want a great system id go JL subs and amps and alpine head unit and speakers. I did a lot of reaserch before i bought my W3's i was even going to buy two Type X subs but i founf that the W3v2 were louder and produced better sound. If you have any more questions i love my car audio so just ask.

KrazyKuch 02-28-2005 09:47 PM

I hear ya on the great JL Subs thats what I have but I bought the 10W6V2's retail at $680!!! I have one Alpine V12 1000Watt Mono (which actually puts out 400Ws at 2ohms I measured it) and a Kenwood 1000W mono (which puts out 400W at 2 ohms) Pounds hard....also have a Cap!

Invigor 02-28-2005 10:07 PM

w3v2s were my original choice, but my buddy didn't carry JL :(

JL is funny business too, cuz the w0 and w6 just blow...yet the 3v2 and w7 are pimp...I find it funny your type-rs were shown down tho :(

Tarolisol 02-28-2005 10:08 PM

Yeah 400 watts at 2 ohms when they rate it at 700 watts. Id love to get the w6s but ab sound didnt have them when i went in and i hate to wait for stuff. The type Xs look awsome sound decent and cost way to much. Now i need to find someone to get me subs at cost.

*Sigh* I cant wait till I am old enough to drive. Just two more years, just two more years, just two more years, just two more years, just two more years, just two more years...
