WTB Pump

Hey all I am in desperate need of a pump for my sump....I am currently using two fluval 204's in series to pump water to my tank from my sump...

I don't exactly know what size pump I need though....I have a 29g Tank with a 10g sump my overflow came from a 230g tank so It can handle I high GPH flow rate!

Do you have an idea of the GPH you want? I noticed you have very little head on your setup, you might get away with a mag 8 or 12. I always say go bigger in case you upgrade in the future, you can always reduce the flow if its too much.

The plan is to buy large enough to support our 230g when we get it. What would you suggest?

Invigor 02-22-2005 01:33 AM

Which pump were you going to get? I use the 3000 in a 120 Gal SPS and highly recommend it.

I use a Sequence Dart and I think its great. Just another alternative to the Amp Master. It does depend how far up you need to pump in the end though.

Yup, that is true!

mr_alberta 02-22-2005 03:33 PM

Its going to be tricky since it needs to be large enough for a 230G but small enough to use on a 29G for now....here's an idea. Why not get a pump now that you can use on a skimmer later? That LG5 Dez has would work, but there are many other choices out there...

Money is a huge factor here right now.

We're looking into buying Ed's stand for his 230 as to save us some $$ down the road. The 29 is only going to be running until we get the 230 in place and is cycled, which we are hoping will be early this summer.

Kevin was looking for a website on the mag series pumps, is there one?

Here's the manufacturs website... not a lot of info though.

michika 02-22-2005 04:08 PM

Whats the point of the website then if it doesn't showcase and provide information about the product?

Delphinus 02-22-2005 05:09 PM

What info are you looking for in particular? I've found to look up specs on magdrives it's better just to google it. Retailers will post some info like flowrates, power draw, etc. Check out premiumaquatics.com, they're pretty good about posting info about the products they sell.

beaker020 02-24-2005 01:25 AM

better info on the pondmaster site. Pondmasters are the same pumps as a mag drive only with longer powercords
