Im getting a new dog and have some questions.

Hey well on wednesday i will be introdicing a new member to my family, a puppy sheltie, I was wondering if any one had an old plastic kenell they would like to get rid of, for a medium dog, Or any other dog items?
Thanks, Sean.

I changed the post title, better to recyle then waste a thread

wal-mart seems to be the cheapest place for new ones, if you cant find anything used.

I was going to say, I think we spent a whopping 28$ for the plastic kennel for cody (he's in the sheltie size range). At wallyworld of course.

With the way Parvo and other diseases hang around - not sure I'd want a used kennel...

Yeah we were thinking the same thing so we decided to buy a new one. It was 40 at zellers, which is cheaper then ive found anywhere else. Thanks guys.

And a quesion, does anyone know how much vaccinations cost?

Willow 02-21-2005 11:20 PM

yearly vacinations are usally about a 100 bucks a dog including a checkup.

Tarolisol 02-22-2005 12:36 AM

What about the initial vaccinations for puppies. I think there are three that you need to get.

Check at the local SPCA. They're usually the cheapest place around, if I remember correctly from my petshop days.

In alberta the ASPCA will only give discounted Vet services with animals that are being adopted from their shelter.

if your worried about vaccination prices you are going to be in for some shocks at the cost of owning a dog. last year one of my greyhounds dislocated her toe, by the time it was all over it cost me almost a 1000 bucks and her a toe. all i can say is i wish i had gotten all the dogs insurance when they were pups.

Our dog went to the Vet Saturday for shots a check up, they say she needed a teeth cleaning and the estimate was between $785-$950 depends how much time they spend. My wife is Dental Hygenist (no she can't do the dogs teeth  ) she said a human worst case senario would be about $250-$300
What we won't do for our pets
BTW she is a yorkie terrier so not much teeth

FFS..if you have to ask about the cost of adequate care for a pet. please let someone else own it.

Tarolisol 02-22-2005 06:34 AM

Wow, this is the last thing i thought would happen in this forum, im being flamed for getting a dog, and for everyones information i have plenty of money, enough money to own and care for numerious amounts of dogs if we really want to get into it. I am very careful with my money that is all if i can get somthing used for cheaper then why not. As for the vaccinations it was a simple question, i just could not remember the cost. Its not that i care what the cost will be. And i know dogs are expensive, I do own one already, and that dog a couple months ago was in the vet for three days with some sort of sickness which cost me 1200 dollars. So before people start to flames maybe they should be informed.

Willow 02-22-2005 02:45 PM

im not flaming you but i was a little worried, dogs can get expensive. i used to be an adoption rep for greyhound pets of america and the stuff ive seen people try an cut corners on would astound you. that said im not a super huge fan of vets, sure the dogs go when they are sick or need shots but seem to be in the same class as dentists. both my dentist and vet continually try and sell me and my dogs crap we don't need or want. i wish they were more like health care providers rather than salespeople. it's really annoying when my vets says you know i know you love your dog so you should really be feeding her this all natural kangaroo and ostridge mix of food at a mere 75 bucks a bag, sara open this gentleman’s tailgate and lets slide a palate in for him. this got so ridiculas one point i little got into a shouting match with the receptionist and pulled my business of 5 dogs from him :bad-word:

btw shelties are great dogs, my neighbors on both sides have one. very sweet playful dogs.

Tarolisol 02-22-2005 04:25 PM

Thanks willow for the comments, see that is what i was looking for something constructive. Vets can get a little rediculus but what can you do my dog was incredible sick and throwing up blood so i had no choice but to take her to the vet. They did sell me some wierd food, but it was just a real bland rice and chicked food that didnt cost much more then the regular food anyways, and they didnt expect me to use that food for ever. They were really help, but the bill was crazy but my dogs still with us so thats all that matters.
