Anyone into Remote controled vehicles?
Im looking into purchasing a used gas powered car or truck. If anyone has a complete one they want to sell, or could point me in the right direction as to a good store to visit would be much appreciated. And if anyone has any good tips on what to look for when buying one. PM if you can help.
PS: I know its not aquatics related, but niether is alot of stuff in the lounge. |

I think this is kinda sorta lounge material, maybe. Except the buy/sell overtones, but we're working on a lounge policy now, so you're slippin' under the wire. I think. Who knows..... |
I've been into the r/c nitro addiction for many years now. The whole r/c industry has gone wild and you have more choices now than ever before.
Be very carefull though! Just as reefing is, the r/c hobby is like crack to some of us who try to escape it's clutches time and time again. I have one monster truck that I was thinking of parting with, but it's as hopped up as you can get and could more than likely be allot more than most sane people would spend their hard earned money on. There's a group of us who get invited to put on a show at the saddle dome in Calgary for Monster Jam every year for three days. If your into extreme r/c, this event is the bomb! PM me if you have any questions, or if I can help you out somehow. |
I like the little mini R/C cars that were all the rage a couple years ago.
I ended up with two that run on the same channel. So much for racing those two ... although it's amusing to control both simultaneously.. |

Man,
I miss the RC hobby. I quit the hobby because the only indoor track in Calgary had gone under. There was an outdoor one but that required you having a real car to charge the battery packs. I even had a pit tip published in the RC Car magazine years ago. Sunk thousands$$$$ into the hobby. Titanium parts, diy chasis...etc etc.... memories  des |
I buy mine out of the states I got 2 Trcks a Car and an Airplane.
|
I'm not allowed to fly my brother's and nephew's plane any longer. Sheesh, crash a R/C plane into the ground just once ........
R/C helicopters are pretty cool too, but have never tried flying one. But what I really think is cool is R/C sailboats. Some of them have insanely many controls, i.e., not just main sail and jib trim and rudder, but also mast rake, cunningham, outhaul, etc. ... Wow. |
I hear helocopters are hard to fly too.
|
I have been trying to save up for a HPI Savage but house Reno's have kept that from happening. I have been thinking about getting a Bushpig instead but not to sure if they are legal in canada. I heard about them on Daily Planet.

I missed my R/C cars as well except mine was electric and was so close in getting a Nitro. I guess i chose keep marine fish instead....lol
I guess u just missed the window, a guy was selling his TMaxx at the Calgary.forsale newsgroup which includes the starter, gas etc...quite a good deal. There are 2 shops i know of that sells R/C stuff, one is right besides Wai's aquarium on 16Ave NE. ( 2 stores west of Wai's ) i think they sell R/C stuff..or i have been told. The other one is PM Hobbycraft on 32Ave NE, right besides Memory Express, they have lots of choices of cars. |
Yup still got mine, I was a dirt guy T/A RC10 truck and buggy and Team Losi buggy. Haven't touched them in years think couple speed controllers are toast. Was fun until Hobby Pro Raceways closed.
|
I crashed my friends helicopter AND plane into the same tree! We had to climb 30 feet. I like the boats. Alot less you can do to them.

My other vice besides reef tanks and fly-fishing.
I used to race T/A 10t's offroad, went to the Roar Nationals and Regionals. It got out of hand trying to keep up with factory drivers, with new motors, batteries, tires etc. Now I just play around with my T-Maxx, its a riot. I'm waiting to break in a Revo, it looks like its going to be a blast. My collection now is 2 T/A RC10T's T-Maxx Revo HPI F-1 onroad Victoria sailboat Villian EX electric boat Losi mini-t Kyosho mini-z Check out a T-Maxx you'll love it. |
Brian,
Why so into the Traxxas products? For the money you dump into them you can just about get into true 8th scale big block stuff. |
I just bought a used Tmaxx. This thing is a riot!!!  Not sure Ill get into it as much as reef keeping though. But its fun for the weekends.
|
Well if you need any help with the Maxx feel free to PM me I have been running RC for many years and know the maxx inside and out once the waether warms up we hold some club races and practice days at Zellers in Abbotsford Off of sumas way by revy its all on road but it is a blast and if you want to learn it is a good place to go as we are not trying to sell you anything we just help out the new guys and give alot of good advice
|
I just sold my RC10GT and TMAXX :( Slowly working on a Corsair kit.
|
I have an R/C Sail plane and an electric park flyer/slow flyer. You can get into the flying side of things now an almost ready to fly plane with a two channel radio, charger etc for $150 in the vancouver area. It's a great family sport.

I think the coolest thing was the flight simulator for the computer. YOu can crash your planes as many times as you want and it will come back. Gives you some practice until u r good.
|
Yeah but you can buy a nice plane etc for the $$ of the simulator... (you mean the one that uses your RC plane remote right?)
Doug |
I dont know. ALl i know is that it has a great big remot and plays of the comp. But the nice thing about it is that you can never reck your plane. Just till you get good right.

LOL Willow...
Ryan there is a program you can get for your R/C plane it's basically a trainer that you can use your R/C controller with (as long as it's got the training adapter). You plug in your controller and fly your plane. It's not like flying a real R/C plane though, that's something a computer can't duplicate. Doug |
I have a pimped out Xmods car I think they are awesome...You can do alot of different things with them and they are pretty cheap considering...
I have been looking into a RC Helicopter I think it will be fun to fly build them right from scatch....I love all RC stuff....Have built my own controlers and everything before. I once built a car like the one's you would see on Battle Bots or what have you...mine weighed in at 240lbs it was a fun adventure building it, I sold it a couple years ago for like $400 well worth it in my mind cause I didn't spend anywere near that much money to make it!!! |
There is a helicopter trainer out there for R/C, it's kind of a...thingy.. um braces etc but it doesn't let the helo get out of whack. It's loose enough so you can screw up but it doesn't let it get out of control.
