Interesting facts about space distances (found by good old Google):

- Our solar system is 10 light hours from one side to the other (don't know if that includes the Kuiper Belt or not)
- The entire Milky Way is about 100,000 light years across
- Earth is located on one of the spiral arms of our galaxy and is about 26,000 light years from the center of the galaxy
- The newly discovered dwarf galaxy in Sagittarius, only 60,000 light years away, is spiralling into the Milky Way (so I think we'd better look out  in a few thousand light years  )
- The nearest large spiral galaxy like the Milky Way is the Andromeda galaxy, about 2.7 million light years away
- The distance to the most distant object seen in the universe is about 18 billion light years

- Nearest grocery store is a four minute walk from our condo (not found by Google)

And the nearest bit of "reef" is 6 ft. from my desk.

aaaahhh....

Yup. Live downtown. Population density is at its most intense around here. Two other grocery stores are only 15 minute walks from here.

Lee (bulletsworld) lives only a 10 minute walk away.

Our favourite pizza place is only a three minute walk  Don't know how far that is light years, though

Zerandise 02-14-2005 06:05 PM

wow our closest grocery store is about a 50 min walk away since they closed the IGA on the corner of Cambie and #5. The Pizza place is about 8 min walk away. Closest reef shop is about an hour walk as well.

My reef tank about 5 second walk away :)

Oh,oh, what did I say now. I just think it would be nice to live in downtown Edmonton or another similar city. I picked Edmonton, cause I always bowled well at Boonie Doon.

Doug,

I totally misunderstood your post  Sorry. Had just woken up from a quick nap and didn't take the time to read your post thoroughly  Silly me

FWIW, we have mature elms and conifers lining our street. A couple of times a day there is a group of chickadees and nuthatches that come through looking for food. Haven't seen any squirrels all winter, but in summer there are a few around. Even saw a chipmunk on my way to the 4 minute-away store one time

The most interesting wild thing happening right now is a magpie breaking twigs off the elm near our balcony. Must be fixing up a nest that's nearby. Very funny to watch the bird with a twig in its beak trying to get it free of the twigs still on the tree

Of course, being downtown, there are numerous cart pushing people who collect bottles from dumpsters. Many of them could be homeless. Very sad to see them

Whew thanks, thought I was in trouble again.

I was telling my wife about where you live and said how nice something similar to that might be instead of the country.

I will second and third and fourth that comment

mike

I've always found the best way to move a tank is to have a bigger one set up in the new place and have it all ready to go, IE New lights etc, then use your older system as well.. the smaller unit.

Okay closest grocery store is about 4 min, closest pub 2 min, closest strip club 6 min, closest pharmacy 10 min (all walking) closest chinese buffet 11 min. Closest LFS 10 min... HOWEVER lucky old me... 15 min from J&L 10 Min from King Eds, 15 to BA's yeah I know... and Perky's Pets is 10 Min away. I've got shoe stores and the army and navy store right down the street to. I've got about 500 gazillion wedding (almost spelled that weeding) gown shops with in a 2 min walk. I got my son a really nice telescope at christmas and we've managed to look at the moon a few times. Would like to join the planetarium clubs or something one day if he's into it.

Bev, some cool stuff you come up with,

Doug
