what size hole?
OK, so I'm going to make my own tank. What size hole do I need for a 1.5" bulkhead?
|
IIRC, a 1.5" bulkhead needs a 2.5" hole.
|
Are you sure its not 6.75"...

We're redecorating and we've decided something smaller and less industrial looking will suit the livingroom better. I can buy glass wholesale, so I'm going to try my hand at building the tank myself, should be fun!! |

Ahh... seems like an ideal solution.
Your clams will love you with an 18" depth on your tank. |

Brad, you going to run a single 1 1/2in. overflow? I run a pair of 11/4in. with a Mag 12 return and it seems just about the right amount for them to handle. |
Doug, I haven't quite worked out whether I'll do 1 or 2 holes. My 155g has only one, and it works just right with the MAG 12. I might do 2 just because, but 1 would probably be OK.
Now I just need to decide corenr or centre. If I go centre, I'll have to pick up a second seaswirl, just to make things even. corners, and I can use a single seaswirl in the centre. decisions, decisions.... |
coast to coast..

I am currently running a 1.5" durso with a mag 12 and runs spectacularly. not good, spectacular

I have a center in my 140. Would much rather have it on the side. seems to be in the way in the middle.

my 90 is in the center and i dont really like it much either.
|
If I go with the centre, I would build the overflow box with angled sides, I think that would make it blend more. However, my plan is to have an open middle tank and this would cut 6" out of the centre area. Maybe 1 or 2 corners will be better. I think for my needs, one on the left corner will do it.
|
I had a V shaped center overflow in my 180. It was ok, but I still prefer the corners better.
But thats wall built, where I dont view in the ends. I just made a smaller sized rock wall around it. Why not do something like a homemade rock plaster on the overflow, then one could still leave the center open. I also thought the center V would be better on my current 5ft. tank, with two halides, but on a 4ft. guess it does not matter as much. |
