Where can I find a tank like this?
 

Hi all,
I posted this question on nano-reef as well but I am trying to find a nano tank like the ones featured in the nano reef edition of coral magazine.
Here's one that's ok:

They are from 1 - 3 gallons and might not even be built to be aquaria. I just can't figure out where I would find something similar - too big to be vases ??

You might want to look at places like petcetera and wal-mart it kind of looks one of other those small acrylic tanks without the top.

Funny,I was thinking about tiny tanks today and was thinking about using a large (gallon)glass jar for a nano.If you shop around,you'd be surprised what you can find very cheap.

That would look pretty neat too. I would really like to drill the bottom of whatever I use, is there a chance of drilling a jar like that, or is it impossible?

Well give it a try.Large glass jar cost almost nothing if you ask a local restraunt if they have any large empty glass jars(used for bulk pickles,etc.)I just pitched 2 very large jars when I moved :sad:

Are those goldfish in that little tank? If so, I'd like you to know that if kept properly, goldfish can grow to 12" in length and live 15 to 20 years.

I got it at walmart i think. And they are gold fish and i know they can grow large but oh well. Ive had one of them for over 8 years in various tanks around that size.

Man, I just loved watching them swim in that large space, especially when they swam in and out of the water flow :biggrin: Only had them about three years, so they were still pretty small. I wonder if we had kept them when we moved if we would have built them larger digs.

Wow how quikly canreef can turn into reefcentral, some one asks for advice or trys to help someone out and some has to criticize or make comments that have nothing to do with the direction of the thread.
Oh and thanks for the comment about abusing my fish that helps alot. Some people need to think before they type. And how about all the people that feed goldfish to other fish, is that abuse or people who go fishing is that abuse. NO, but i keep one goldfish in a little tank and im the criminal.

But bev i do really like your pond. Is it noisy at all? and how do you filter it.

Ok lets settle this down, things seam a lot harsher in written form than they really are. My point is, would you keep a yellow tang in a 10gal tank? probably not but yet you keep a fish with a similar size requirement in a smaller tank. I may not know all the fancy Latin names for my coral ( If you ask me I have a blue, a green, a red, a purple and a pink. Oh and there acro's :mrgreen: )or fish but I do know there requirements and strive to provide the best set up I can for my animals, no matter what they are.

As for reef central not even close, it was pointed out to you that the tank was to small for a gold fish and you started getting flustered. Just trying to reiterate that a gold fish should be in a minimum of 20 gal for 1 or 2 fish with above average filtration as they can seriously degrade water quality. for the record I don't believe in using feeders either.

anyways if you want to keep it in a drinking glass go ahead but don't flaunt it and get upset when people tell you it isn't proper.

I knew someone was going to say something about the goldfish but in hopes of helping fish find a tank he wants i posted the pics anyways. But seriously its a gold fish people used to put goldfish in boots cause it was the fad. It may not be the best set up for it but at least im not feeding it to my piranhas which i actully dont feed feeder fish either, my piranhas eat pellets :mrgreen: So i think we should get away from my goldfish abuse and back to the topic at hand fish's tiny tank.


So back on topic now, FIsh how would you plan on plumbing a tank this small.

If we take living things into our care it is our responibility to provide appropriate care. Goldfish or not, that tank is not appropriate for the size of fish you have in the photo.

If you are going to post photos, you are going to get feedback. If you dont want to hear the feedback dont post photos.

If we only compared ourselves to the lowest standards we wouldn't achieve much.

(and btw, I think tiny tanks are lame, totally lame... for various reasons. you can't keep squat in there and do a good job, and I don't care how many people waste too much time trying it "successfully" so don't even start with me, OK?) :biggrin:

But yeah, seen those mini-"tanks" around at some shops - Petcetera, etcetera...

Hey Chad, I saw a tank similar to Sean's at Chum's tonight. Maybe give them a call for more info.

Or maybe, instead of a mini nano I should just follow Bev's lead and build a 110gal indoor marine lagoon. That would be sweet! :eek:

Thank you for the link - I m a litle worried about mention of scratches but I will contact the seller to find out where they are. I also saw today a 1.6gal hex tank at walmart (called "aqua _?__ plus") that looked like it would make a neat little tank. Unfortunatly, the acrylic was very poor quality and you could actually see drip marks in the walls when you looked closely. Is there anyone in town who would make a little hex tank out of glass?

Holy Wow :eek: That's a gorgeous indoor pond and a gorgeous dining room. The goldfish are awesome too!! Excellent work and interior design. I could use some tips for my place. :biggrin:

Well you can usually find scraps of 4-12" acrylic being sold on the reef sites (leftovers from DIY skimmers) ebay's also generally got some good scraps... Then add a bottom and drill as needed...

As usual, your only limitation are your plastic working skills and budget :)

That's the same 2.5g as the one we used to have, only ours was blue. Good quality plastic, too. They come in a variety of colours. Picked mine up at a local Petsmart, if I remember correctly. Might have seen them at Big Al's several months back. Details and pics of the tank and contents can be seen at the link provided above.

Thanks, Sam :biggrin: Loved those goldfish. They were very social, active and colourful, even the plain old feeder goldfish. Hated to have to part with them when we moved. :frown:

Up till now, readers of this post are probably fustrated with my inability to choose a tank, but I have finally decided on an acrylic cylinder with a diameter of 10" and height of 12". Should be about 4 gallons. I will post some pictures once I have it.

I think we all understand... If only you saw the flip flopping involved in my head - designing the new rack and choices as to what will be kept on it (tank and fish) wise... I'm 6 inches vertically short of what I need - and you have no idea how frustrating that is!

You are a genius! That thing look so sweet. Unfortunately they want $200can for the acrylic one and $270 for the glass version :sad: .
Way too much for an 8" cube. Woulda looked good on my counter though...
