Calgary Reefers get together

Ok, get your mind outta the gutter - not that kinda reefer

Was visiting fish today, he mentioned he'd like to have a get together of the calgary reefers. Meet n greet, swap b.s. (maybe a few frags) get to know some of the local crowd... I sure wouldn't mind meeting some more reefers.

Any interest? Anyone got a larger house / location to have such an event (my condo is a bit small) I'm sure attendee's would be willing to bring beverages / snacks.

Andy

Bob I 12-19-2004 07:24 PM

I have the same problem. My place is too small. What we could do is half go to your place, and half to mine. Then after a couple of hours we switch attendees. OK, just an idea.

Canadian Man 12-20-2004 02:13 AM

I was hoping to have the next get together but it was going to be in january.

January works ;) What date did you have in mind?

Andy

Canadian Man 12-21-2004 01:12 AM

I have no idea on a date yet....

I have the next 2 weeks off but there's too much going on this time of year.

I'll figure out a date and let ya'll know

BMW Rider 12-21-2004 01:13 AM

Sounds like fun. Later in the month of January is better for me since I'm going south for a visit to my fishes relatives in the Caribbean in the second week. My house is also a bit small to host since I've yet to finish the basement.

Delphinus 12-21-2004 04:40 AM

Ok, we'll forgive you Ed, on condition that if you go snorkeling or diving you have to bring back pictures to show at the meet!

Well my house surely is not a mansion but the basement is developed at least.

If we get some nice weather, maybe we can still have our late summer BBQ...

mmmmm.... baaaaarbecue......

mmmmm... turrrrkeeeey....

I can't get in the mood for a BBQ - never mind. But if anyone wants to have me over for a turkey sandwich in early January, let me know.

Got a spare suit case I can tag along in?

Alan have you never tried BBQ'ing your turkey?! Oh man you have to try it. It's the only way I'll cook a turkey when it's my turn to do it.

Bob I 12-21-2004 03:20 PM

OK Tony you barbecue the bird and slice it up, and we will make sure there is bread on hand for the sandwiches. :smilecol:

You intrigue me, Tony - and I do have a high-dome lid on my grill... I think I need more information.

course, that's not something to experiment with when we have 20 of my family coming over...

Delphinus 12-21-2004 04:13 PM

Well, it's not really any faster than cooking one in an oven. But hey, it's a BARBEQUE!!! I dunno - give me a BBQ and I'm happy to cook anything. Can you BBQ ice cream?

Ever tried deep fried? Once you do, you'll never have it any other way.

Fish 12-23-2004 06:27 PM

Great idea people! Bird or beast, roasted or fried, I'll be there  .
I'd love to get to meet everyone - just let me know what I can bring (pop?... casserole?... frags?...).

I think we're waiting on canadian man to volunteer a date that's free in his schedule :)

If he's fallen asleep at the wheel... We could always have a big ol kawphy meet at like pizza hut by golds or something :)

Andy

Tarolisol 01-05-2005 06:52 AM

I wanna get in on this as well. So is canadian man donating his house to the cause.

Canadian Man 01-05-2005 07:02 AM

Yup still donating but trying to figure out with the other half what day is good.

When you have it all figured a new thread should be created where a person can post what kinds of frags and other offerings they will bring or need. IE: I need zoanthids....

Snappy 01-06-2005 12:58 AM

I am a rookie at marine tanks but would like to meet and greet some others in the hobby. I have a 130 gal tank started in Sept 04 and am learning as I go.

Wish I had a 130 gallon tank when I started. In fact, I wish I had one now!

Delphinus 01-06-2005 04:06 PM

Ditto ...

Snappy 01-06-2005 05:22 PM

 Thanks for the welcome. I am interested to see what and how other people set up their systems. At the moment I have a community tank being slowly coaxed into a reef with fish but I think I must be about $10K away from what (I think) I want to end up with. This hobby is a bigger money pit than my car but I am really enjoying it. Looking forward to a meeting.

Check out the tank specification threads, they will give you a good idea about what other people are doing. BYW welcome to the board!

Depending on the date, I wouldn't mind dropping by.

Well gee, if some of our Northern Members are going to mush on down for this, I could make some very rare "Edmonton Eskimo" zoos available...

nope but that's part of the fun. It will have to be split from upstairs and downstairs. Basically a whole house get together.
