Flemed's Official 75G Build Thread
Hey everyone. Been a long time since I've even looked at my tank more than just something taking up room, but my girlfriend and I finally decided that it's long overdue to do any work on.
A couple years ago we lucked into a couple of free tanks from a store here in Calgary that was getting rid of some of their older stuff. https://ucb170b169f44d34a8a0dbc009e2...00&size_mode=3 I cleaned up the larger tank and it should be roughly 75 Gallons. Added in a bit of spray paint to give a bit of color to a couple of the walls. Quite pleased with how it turned out. https://uca734aeef6516fc7b3940c1ef4a...00&size_mode=3 |
Would be better if I could figure out how to change the image sizing in here. If someone could help me out, that would be amazing.
ANYways. Once the tank was cleaned up and painted, I met with a friend of mine and we built a sturdy stand for it, custom designed for the tank, and including a taller portion to hide the plumbing so it's not an eyesore. https://uc401ae10a5bf67a912b40d8f153...00&size_mode=3 The sump will be mounted on the bottom shelf with an auto top off tank on one end so that we don't have to worry about that as often. Once the stand was built, I was in touch with Eli to purchase rock off of him to create a nice aquascape in the tank. I added these to the tank along with some sand just to get a good idea as to what we are looking at. https://ucccf56c83b10a85b3fc1f3db7e0...00&size_mode=3 https://uc53f1fac48ebcc69c5bc4ee0231...00&size_mode=3 The rock and sand has been sitting in there ever since, but will be removed soon so that we can move forward with the build. |
Today we are ordering the following from Reef Supplies so that we can move forward the next time I am home.
https://uc619dc6b8ec15ae8bdeb0af22bc...00&size_mode=3 Once these are ordered, I will be designing a sump to fit on the bottom shelf of the stand. The plan is to run a Bubble Magus Curve 7 for the skimmer, and an Eheim 1262 return pump. Sump will have room for a small refugium as well. More updates to come. Stay tuned! |
Dropbox should give you a size option when you copy to paste here.

Hey Flemed
I'd rethink using the Tunze Nano on a system your size. The nano unit does not come with the sensor eye and is meant for in tank use. Consider using the regular Tunze 3155 with the sensor eye. This unit is meant for sumps and has been running in my system for over 6 years now. |

Thanks for your suggestion however the nano has already been ordered as it fit our budget at this time. If it does not meet our needs, we will look into upgrading in the future. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Got some work done on the stand this weekend while I was home. Still have some more skinning to do as well as making and mounting the doors and then staining the whole thing. But it’s progressing!

Looking good, it’s amazing what can be done with some of the older tanks. Nice refresh so far.

Got the stand almost done today. Couple more minor things to finish on it tomorrow then time to bring it home for staining and cleaning.

Time to get it wet!?

Almost. Need to wait for the sump to get built before that happens. Oh well. Another three weeks to go.

And with a couple days worth of work, we have the overflow glass in place, drain, return and ato all plumbed, proper lights installed, substrate and rocks set in place, and to water....trickling into our mixing barrel.
Still need to remove the canopy once more to mount the light fixture to the lid properly (need to get the right screws for that tomorrow), and install one more power bar underneath to accommodate larger than normal plugs. Progress has been made! I'm just hoping to have a decent amount of water into the tank before I return to work Tuesday morning. Fingers crossed. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2cbbd03f03.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...90c2f9805d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a6bac8d37b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a53a62df7e.jpg Sent from my SM-G965W using Tapatalk |
I setup my old desktop computer with a webcam pointed at my tank. Not much to look at right now but I will try to keep it running 24/7

Pics from my girlfriend's phone. Blue/purple is actually less purple than in that picture. It's a pair of blue led strips mounted under the light fixture to give a moonlight look 24/7 so we have some light to see insidehttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...75407485ae.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0532ab7dd7.jpg
