Dying Corals
 

I'm not sure what's going on with my tank lately. I've lost four really nice colonies that I bought from yifan917. My parameters are good too. I don't understand it. All of the frags I got from Ocean aquatics are alive and well. I lost two of the colonies over the last couple days and then two of the frags (one from Brad and one from Ocean Aquatics) that were close to the colonies died too. Is this normal?

Mostly acros and 1 milli.

Ca - 420
Alk - 10.2
Nitrate 0
pH - 8.1

When they die, they turn real jelly-like. That's probably normal though.

So you're losing LPS? They can get a brown jelly disease.

Nope, they're acros for sure.

hmm, never seen an acro go to jelly.

Given proper water flow for an acro, "brown jelly" infection wouldn't be able to accumulate. It's easily blown away.
Do you have lots of water flow for your SPS?
Brown jelly infection is cured with a Lugols or iodine dip, mixed 5 drops to one litre.

I have a maxijet 1200, and 802 and a Hagen Pro 4 in three out the four corners in my 90G. The brown jelly blows away leaving the coral skeleton in perfect condition.

take a pic of it if you can. never seen/heard acros going jelly because they only have polyps to go jelly with. I've seen other corals with "meaty" parts go jelly but not acros. Pic??

Unfortunately they've already turned and nothing is left other than a skeleton. I'm beginning to lose another coral now but there isn't any jelly present in this one. I've put all of them in the same spot for optimal light and flow and they seem to start dying as soon as I put them there. Any idea why this might be?

Could it be a circulation issue? Is 12X turnover enough for acros?

The duration it takes for the coral to die is pretty quick. I'm fairly new to the hobby. Can someone explain to me what RTN is and if there's anything I can do to help.

It's not RTN. RTN is obvious when it happens. The tissue almost floats away from the skeleton very quickly. You can lose a whole colony in hours or less!!
Jelly is something I would use as a search parameter in Eric Borneman's forum at RC.

Eric Borneman is probably the best resource for determining what type of "affliction" the acros have. And how to treat it. I always post to his forum for things like this.

yifan917 got many nice sps that I saw. He maintained excellent water quality.

It may be something to do with your water quality.
