Bali aquacultured lets see'em

Hey Guys,

I swear I started a thread with this subject before. For the life of me I can't find it. Anyways lets get another one going. I know there has been a good deal of these Bali pieces coming into B.C so lets see them in your tanks. Here's my two favorite.

Here's a pic of this one I got in June.

And now in December

This one in October

Ok Guys now don't be shy lets see them.

AJ_77 12-07-2004 06:40 PM

Well, if I had some... where is your tutorial on top-down shooting, BTW?

Very interested to see this thread progress.

StirCrazy 12-07-2004 11:15 PM

Me, I'm laughing. I cried when I saw (and smelled) the bucket. Are you fragging any of those Steve??

AJ_77 12-08-2004 02:05 AM

Yeah, no... I'm not fond of those pics at all.

Aquattro 12-08-2004 02:07 AM

Agreed. Let's try to keep this in the spirit in which Jamie intended. Live bali frags only for the rest of the thread, k?

Scavenger 12-08-2004 02:33 AM

Not nearly as brown in real life. More a honey blonde ale colour, with blue tips like the bags under your eyes the morning after too many honey blonde ales.

sumpfinfishe 12-08-2004 04:26 AM

Great pieces there Jamie
I really like the second piece, so much in fact that I guess I couldn't supply enough Stella's to get a frag of that one eh
Where are you getting these exotic acro's from?
LFS or your buddies down south?

Aquattro 12-08-2004 05:47 AM

Rich, these are all pieces available at most of the western Canadian LFS. They all come in from the same supplier, so there is no secret source. Hidden Reef gets large orders in over that side of the water.

albert_dao 12-08-2004 05:48 AM

Well, there's always my pink peice:

Hold on tight.

Steve, well aren't you a party pooper.

Why don't you do that. Corals always look better with some tissue on them.

Scavenger,

MMMMMM honey blonde ale, now you got my attention.

Rich,

Oh I'm sure you could. Like Brad said about the where from question. Those pieces posted are from Hidden Reef. I believe they got a good price on them right now too.

albert, Thanks for playing. Nice piece, there is a nice selection of milli type pieces in these bali orders.

Now lets see some more.

Steve

AJ_77 12-08-2004 11:01 PM

ya these corals have been in my tank for about a week since the pic were taken (maybe two) and I took them the day after I got them.

If you look in the dead middle of the pink Milli (last pic) you will see the reason it has no polyp extension. the bad type of acro crab and since its removal the coral has been happy as a clam.

Now those are some nice pics...

Your other "devastation" photos just made me sad.

Acro 12-09-2004 06:34 PM

NOw thats the spirit Steve. I really like the first one in your top down shots. Steve for the most part getting good shots of blue/purple colored corals isn't the easiest and perhaps the hardest. You just have to play with angles and setting. Also shutting off the actinic lighting helps. For the life of me I can't get a good top down shot of my Cali Tort it's just too purple for the camera to get a clear shot even with the actinics off. Just when I think I got it and it looks good in the LCD I bring it up on the PC and nope it sucks. One of these days I'll get it.

StirCrazy 12-09-2004 11:59 PM

ya I will have to try it with the actinics off. I took about 50 pics of it and every one was crap LOL

Steve

Samw 12-10-2004 12:13 AM

Got this one back in May. Unfortunately, it suffered some tissue loss during the time when I lost about 70% of my Acros. Luckily this survived. It has potential but it is currently under my center brace right now and not receiving a whole lot of light.

This picture is from May.

EmilyB 12-10-2004 01:28 AM

oooh oooh I think I have one.....do I ? Albert ? Kari ? The purple/now solid blue one?

Okay that's it. I need a camera back.

kari 12-10-2004 02:50 AM

Deb, you picked up at least three when I seen you in the store. I'd post a Bali pic but I've only tried to get one 80 times so far.

EmilyB 12-10-2004 06:55 AM

Well I can't keep any decent backdrop with my butterflys...

Acro 12-10-2004 05:00 PM

Sam, Yeah that is a nice one, when the orders come in it certainly is an eye catcher. I believe that one is being marketed as A. elseyi.

Thay all come around eventually

sumpfinfishe 12-13-2004 07:01 AM

After seeing this post I picked up a stocking stuffer for myself today while I was xmas shopping. I'm still waiting for the PM though as to how many Stella's I need to bring out for a tiny frag of that second colony

http://members.shaw.ca/sumpfinfishe/...ellowacroc.jpg

Acro 12-13-2004 07:08 PM

Hey Rich, Holy blue light  As for a frag you might be better off asking after a few beers.

sumpfinfishe 12-13-2004 07:57 PM

Yeah that is pretty blue alright  that's cause I didn't get home til late and it was even later when realized I should take a shot of the new piece. I will try to get one today now that the daylight tubes are on

Hey Jamie, did you change your email address?
And like I said, you name the time and I will bring the keg's

Acro 12-13-2004 08:14 PM

Rich, I did change my addy some time ago. If you have jcross1@shaw.ca then yeah I changed it. I wanted something different and put my creative mind to work and came up with jcross2@shaw.ca  Kidding aside I used to have high speed then I down graded to the light speed and couldn't keep the same addy.

There sure isn't many pics being posted in this thread. I'm sure there has to be more of us that have gotten some of the Bali's. So get out the camera's and lets see them.

sumpfinfishe 12-15-2004 05:40 PM

Well here it is under the daylight tube, now you guy's might be
able to see what I took a picture of in my previous reply to this thread
Gotta get me a better macro camera one of these days!

Well figured I'd better give an update on the ones that I didn't think were picture worthy. (for those that havn't seen the update on Rc)

When I first got it back in November
http://members.shaw.ca/jcross2/nov2504_004.JPG

As of yesterday. I know it's even hard for me to believe this is the same coral.
http://members.shaw.ca/jcross2/jan1105_001.JPG

Another from back in November.
http://members.shaw.ca/jcross2/nov2504_003.JPG

Again as of yesterday.
http://members.shaw.ca/jcross2/jan1105_013.JPG

As well an update on the Monti.
http://members.shaw.ca/jcross2/jan1105_007.JPG

sumpfinfishe 01-12-2005 09:25 PM

I kinda like the "before" shot on that first one. I guess you never know what they're gonna do...

Acro 01-12-2005 10:49 PM

Rich, I get the feeling you like that Monti.

Alan, I would tend to agree with you as far as close up shots go. Over time as it grows and finished the color transformation I believe the new look will be better as far as a full picture is concerned. What I'm saying is when viewing the tank as a whole, I believe the new look will stand out more. At least thats what I'm hoping for.

Rus 01-15-2005 03:42 PM

hey Jamie , nice pics , is that second one down a piece of a table acro ? just wondering if that's from Mike's ? how's the tank coming ?

Russ

Rus 01-15-2005 03:45 PM
