haha your going to put this in your tank? I wouldn't dare. most people use epoxy putty or ready rod
|
I saw most people use foam to create aquarium background. But im not sure if this is the right stuff. Epoxy wont do justice on my desire rock work

In addition to aquarium safe epoxy I have often seen people do a mix of aquarium sand and portland cement to mortar their rocks together. Afterwards the constructs need time to cure otherwise the cement will effect the alkalinity/pH in the tank. Or drill and dowel the pieces together with acrylic rod NOT ready rod which is metal and would rust. Plastic Zip Ties work too but degrade and fail in time.

And also a post from christyf5 back on 2006 lol

You'll want to find the pond foam that is non toxic. Like this.

I use the foam in frog and freshwater habitats, and have seen it used well on freshwater fish tanks. I'm not sure how well it will hold up in saltwater?
I'd recommend the pond foam sealant over the regular great stuff as it is designed for use in water. |
I have used foam to glue my rock work together 14 years ago, this is how it looks like now

I bought this one at home hardware
It says fish safe. Thanks evryone!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...098d0fa0d8.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Interesting, I'm about to tackle some rock structure building as well.
Never occurred to me to try using foam. I suppose it's easier than going about mixing cement. Wonder how strong of a bond it has with the rock. What kind of weight it can hold up? Think arches and overhangs. Research time! |

It holds like a champ haha foam goes thru the hole of the rock and that what makes the bond really strong, and i used crochet hook to clean the excess. I might put some glue and add some sand to hide the black stuff https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...08d08a7ed5.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Wow.
Nice. Off to home hardware! |
Aquascaping
I used the e Marco cement from j&l. A little pricy but it goes a long way. It works really well. Maybe that will work for you

I purchased pond foam at Gardenworks for 23.00. It was uv resistand and non-toxic. They are the only store that I know of that also sells those tiny water pumps for like 10.00, which are great for really small nano tank setups. Cheers!

Does the rock need to be dry to adhere?
I have some Marco rock that I am cooking and this looks like the path of least resistance. |
