LF: Salinity calibration fluid - YYC

Somehow lost my refractometer calibration fluid. I like to calibrate my meter every 6 months or so.

Looking for salinity calibration fluid in Calgary.

I got mine from Wai's

diy cal fluid

I have 30ml bottles of diy cal fluid made from Randy HolmesFarley recipe and verified at a Calgary lab. $5 or frag for a bottle....
Haven't found any evidence that this fluid is off but when compared to pinpoint fluid it reads a bit high or low meaning the pinpoint stuff is not consistent batch to batch.

I just dont trust RO water as a calibration fluid for aome reason. Never have. I'll give it a try.

Im pretty sure there is a list of refractometers that calibrate fine with RO. Its the cheap ones with no brandname that were found to be reading low when calibrated with RO. I think the redsea one is also not good for RO cal. Randy has a big article on Advancedaquarist.com about calibration standards

Calibration fluid is cheap, $10 will get you ten years worth.

Correct. Finding it is a little harder.

Think its about $20 a bottle in Calgary.... and if you buy 1 from two different stores they will read different also lol.

Wai's never had any ? When I tested with ro water witha vertex refractometer and calibration fluid there was a big difference /. So I tested mine with 2 others and they were dead on with the calibration fluid

Havent tried Wai's yet. I'll hit it on the weekend. Yeah ive had no success with RO water for some reason. I was using pinpoint salinity fluid and it seemed to be darn near perfect.
