Friendly reminder to always check your tank!

Try to look at your tank and equipment every day...unlike me!!..just got back from vacation. Realized that the skimmer on my FOWLR was barely producing bubbles. Upon further investigation... a ton of baby snails! Well...they are shells now.... I'm surprised that they didnt tear the pinwheel apart!

Nice catch! That's why I put screens on skimmer intakes (wedding veil) and clean every week or 2

Interesting! Do you get that at a hobby/craft store?

I think im going to use some hard plastic mesh.

Wrong thing to read as I'm currently in Maui and I don't return home until Sunday! I have someone watching the tank, however they wouldn't have a clue about tee equipment. I'm already scared to come back to my tank (sps corals) after this 2 week vacation.

Mine isnt too bad. I was gone for two weeks. I had a lazy tank sitter who didnt fill my ATO container on my reef. So I had a pretty huge salinity swing. But not much happened. My big bonzai colony is starting to STN and a lot of my zoas melted for some reason. And I now have a weird outbreak of bubble algae and hair algae in my frag tank.

Next time I might actually hire someone with experience.

I'm hoping I experience similar and not a coral wipeout. I'm expecting the tank to have an algae breakout etc. Just hoping nothing silly happened. I'm with you FishyFishy and will probably look for someone with saltwater experience. I had a hard enough time finding someone to feed the fish, do the top off and be trusted inside my house!

Yup! This! I guess we're left with paying a company at this point.

All this algae from two weeks....and ive never had algae issues. And my NO2 and PO4 are undetectable. No idea where it came from

You need to hire a pro tank sitter, like me! Except in your own city! People usually comment to me about how their tank looks better than when they left. :)

Every time I clean my skimmer I pull 3-8 snails out of the skimmer and 2-3 out of the motor never ceases to amaze me.

I agree! Just need to find that someone  Although... I probably won't et time off of work for a while for the next 2 week vacation. But I definitely would like my tank to look better then when I left

I am the only one who thinks it just cool that your snails are reproducing!?!

I've only had the mini hitchhiker types maintain a population, but then again I barely keep regular snails in my tanks.

Would be cool in the refugium, not in the skimmer pump  that could be a disaster to the pinwheel.
