Vitalis - The Whole Fish
NEW Vitalis range (formally New Era Aquaculture) Now shipping across Canada! New additions include micro pellets for the finicky feeders or small mouthed fish Complete range of Coral and Anemone foods plus the addition of fresh water shrimp. WHY Vitalis? Vitalis from World Feeds is the only unique food that not only uses the whole wet fish and animal in production instead of off the floor off cuts, but also is cold compressed and not baked providing a unique soft pellet or flake that is pretty much raw fish meal, just open a tub and smell! Further fortifying ingredients are added to boost the food further providing the most healthy and staple diet possible. This is why numerous research centers and public aquariums switch from feeding ground up wet fish over to Vitalis as it is cleaner, less expensive and much healthier for the live stock. Trusted by Ripleys of Toronto public aquarium and Dubai Mall complex plus multiple others. What more reasons do you need to choose Vitalis? Is there any benefit in feeding the Flake VS. Pellet? I'm looking for a new food for my multiple fish in the reef tank.
|
If you have fish that will only eat from the water column then the addition of flake is important it is also ideal for when transitioning from frozen to non frozen as it give the fish something to chase.
Due to the manufacturing process (lightly steamed and rolled and not baked) the sheets are big and soft so when the required amount is put in the tank the flake does not break up and become near soluble, another visual clue of the quality. Biggest advise when switching foods and specifically vitalis due to it being very strong in flavour, always stop feeding all other brand foods, fish are creatures of habit they don't understand what is good only what is standard, so they will continue to go for the lesser option only if given the chance. With no other option they learn fast vitalis is the new food source and start to get the improved health quality faster. Sent from my mobile desk! |
Thanks for the quick response and great information. I will slowly transition the tank to the new Vitalis
|
I would avoid slow transition, fish are creatures of habit not so much know what's best for them they will follow habit. By doing a hard switch they will follow quicker, you may get some spitting for up to a week, but fish are not going to starve themselves. Some fish have never tasted true raw moist fish meal before it's new to them. Always best to do a hard reset on fish this is what Ripleys public aquariumndid and Quebec Aquarium.

Ok thanks for the advice. I will be picking up variety of the Vitalis food (flame, grazing pellets and sps food). I'm hoping this brings better nutrition to my tank
|
Sounds great please feel free to post pictures or videos here. The moment you open a pot you will see and smell the difference, the pellet can even be molded it's so naturally moist.

Michael,
What is the phosphate content of this food? Also, because of the high nutrient content, is it recommended to feed less? Congratulations on your continued success. |
Excellent question ;)
You are correct you do feed less the Dubai Mall case study showed this with a reduction in food bill per month from $10,000/month to $4,000/month The food has no effects on PO4 the product is not fortified with ash found in the many of other foods, it also contains a Ferrous sulphate monohydrate (a PO4 binder.) Ferrous sulphate monohydrate is a mineral additive. As a blood tonic substance to livestock, it can stimulate the growth of animal's body. source of iron, promotes oxygen-rich blood, immune support. When the likes of Dubai Mall are throwing in over 20Kg a day, a food with a PO4 source would be very detrimental. |
From an expense of $10K to $4k would be enough of an incentive for a business to switch food sources, if the health of the inhabitants could be maintained.
I am interested in further information of the PO4 binder you mentioned. Phosphorous is of course an important macromineral. Thanks |
No Aquarium of that size would take on a food that did not equal or better wet fish which was used before. Each aquarium have in house marine biologists and nutritionists who test the food composition before use. Vitalis is the only food to meet these requirements.
The company cost saving is based on less food wastage and higher nutrition. Wet fish pulping produces a lot of waste also, they used wet fish as the only other option until vitalis came along. If you google the ferrous compound for pet food it will give lots of info :-)) |
I bought some Vitalis (Marine Grazer) almost a year ago from an aquarium store in Kelowna. I feed it to both my freshwater and saltwater along with frozen. They always eat just as readily as the frozen. Btw, I keep all my fish food in the freezer or fridge for longevity.

How long do the marine grazers last? Has anyone used them in a tank with predatory fish that like to steal large food items and swim away with them? Worried my wrasses will rip it off the suction cup and hog it to themselves.
|
They are very dense and bulky unless we are dealing with something like an eel you will be fine. The grazers last 24 hours before breaking down, by then by a long shot they have been devoured

.
Grazer feeding video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oh0FpatU99M If feeding fresh water use either tropical grazers or cichlids grazer this way the species get the correct nutrients. Later in March the holiday grazer launches, good for a week. |
This review was done when it was called New Era, same food different name.

Practical fish keeping review and rate Vitalis best food ever

Thought id give it a try since my yellow tang and foxface are both on the thin side with the wrasses being pigs. Needed a food thats safer to feed in excess (phosphates) so everyone gets a fair share as well.
Well the Marine Pellets were a hit day 1. Even the Sailfin Blenny was eating them. It stayed in the water column more then long enough for the Anthias to enjoy. They also happily ate the seconds from the wrasses who put way to much in their mouth and spit it back out. Only a few fish have figured out what the grazers are so far. Happy to see you get 2 suction cups in the 290g container. Waiting on the tang to give them a try but hes busy eating sunken crumbs from the pellets the wrasses are stirring up. Will try and get a video of it when more fish figure out the grazers. But its holding up so far with the piggys going for them. Clearly i made a mistake starting with 2 because its lasting. |
Great feedback.
Yes the grazer does take a little longer as its composition and shape is so much different but they will always take to it and destroy it once its figured out ;) |
The pellets seem to be working out well for the majority of your tank. I have much the same livestock and I am considering transitioning to either pellets or flake. What were you feeding your tank prior to the switch?
|
I was using Omega One pellets, a few varieties, and a variety of frozen (Mostly Pro Salt and the odd Hakari) and just grocery store dried nori every so often.
The Rabbitfish and tang have figured out the Grazer. So everyone but the Anthias and Blackstripe wrasse (scared to see how long it lasts when she tries it) and Blenny are using the grazer. The Yellow Tang is using it but still prefers nibbling on the sunken pellets. https://youtu.be/8gfFBV88X2w Even the wrasses leave it alone when the rabbit fish is at it. Wow.... Heres a couple of my obese wrasses chowing down. https://youtu.be/7Wpfl_KbQj4 |
Awesome! I just picked up the grazers and will be trying it out tomorrow in the tank. I also tried to get the marine pellets, however they were out of stock. I have read a lot of good reviews and based on the video all your fish seem to like it.
