Most expensive specimen i've seen at JL

Hey for those folks waiting for a Dragon Moray, there's one thats 18-20" for sale at JL for $1799. Plus taxes should hit you at a cool $2059.86
Wouldn't it kinda suck if that specimen died after a few weeks in your tank? It does look stunning in the pictures .......... but then again so does my big screen TV in my living room. and it even has a one year DOA replacement guarantee !

I wonder if JL will take monthly payments OAC

Wow

Matt

SeaHorse_Fanatic 11-07-2004 09:06 AM

Hmmm. Time to dip into my secret Swiss bank account and withdraw that $$$. Wait, that was last night's dream. Oh well. Do you think they'll take my SUV in trade?

albert_dao 11-08-2004 12:16 AM

That's pretty hefty. Funny that you mentioned the TV -- cause my One Year Warranty just expired -- just thought I'd share.

... One day.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 11-09-2004 05:28 AM

Went there today to check it out. Ouch, I'd get a good used car instead. Nice looking, but not $2060 spectacular looking though. At that price, it better come with its own tank, wouldn't you say?

mpishi 11-18-2004 03:48 AM

i know its freshwater but riverside in calgary often had red arrowana for $30k and up

most expensive one i saw was 45 grand (and no chips with that fish)

heard tell of some outrageous prices at koi auctions in japan

Quinn 11-18-2004 04:12 AM

I've heard Arrowana can get into the $200,000 range. But I think there's more associated with those and you're not paying solely for rarity, so it's hard to compare.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 11-18-2004 07:40 AM

Don't mean to offend anybody here, but could it be a case of "more $$$ than brains" happening at these prices?

Rikko 11-18-2004 07:51 AM

...say the people who spend $100 on a LIGHT BULB!

...or $600 on a PLASTIC TUBE THAT MAKES BUBBLES!

More money than brains, yes.. But let's not pretend we're anywhere near sane with the money we're pumping into this hobby. :D

A few days ago my mom mentioned in conversation at dinner with friends that I'd spent "about $150 on some 'live' rock... Isn't that right?" To which I of course answered "yes! Something like that!"

75 lbs of rock... Best not advertise.. :D

Aquattro 11-19-2004 05:38 PM

Darn, just when I was gonna order, the darn thing is sold.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 11-19-2004 05:46 PM

Yes, Rikko, but you needed the 75 lbs of live rock to help keep your tank healthy. Do you REEEAAALLLYYY NEEED to sell your house to buy a $200,000 Arrowana

I spend more than I want to think about on this addiction, (& more than I'll ever let wifey know about), but I think most of us still try to get a good deal for our money. Just thought I'd rather own 1/2 a house than 1 "so-to-commit-suicide-cause-that's-what-I-do" fish like a $200 G Arrowana.

Eel

I know the guy who just bought the Dragon Eel. I'm not saying I would ever buy something like that, nor could I afford it but I will tell you I can't wait to go over there and see it.

That fish is worth $5000 tops.

Geez Jay, i thought you had bought it with your buying spree

JohnM99 11-20-2004 04:34 PM

I have seen 2 or 3 Gem Tangs (Z. gemmatum) go for around $2500 US in the last year or so. But, you can get them in Europe for around half that - you'd think you could FedEx it for a bit less than the difference.

Personally, I am very happy with my $29 yellow tang.

Na, I figured I'll just go over to his house whenever I want to see it rather than spending the cash myself. Plus I'm all tapped out from my recent "spending sprees".

Sushiman 11-30-2004 04:13 PM

I dunno, something as special as a Dragon, I could see doing an entire set-up /"star"-tank for a fish like that. Seriously, dog-lovers out there drop $3500-4000+ for a pure bred English Bulldog & don't think twice about it. Is a Dragon any less spectacular? Sure as heck alot prettier than a Bulldog, good luck petting it though  ! In the proper set-up I bet it would be friggin' stunning.
