Breeding Marine fish?
I am looking to see what species of marine fish people in Canada have managed to breed in their aquariums. I managed to breed numerous types of fresh water fish and found it to be fairly easy. However, there isn't much written about breeding marine fish in an aquarium aside from clownfish so I am very curious to see what experiences people have had?
Anyone out there have any luck breeding salt water fish aside from clownfish? |

I have a breeding pair of Marine Bettas but they laid their first and only batch of eggs in my main display a year ago. I have a friend who regularly raises live rotifers, bbs, and phytoplankton who lives nearby and if he sets up a proper breeding system for the bettas, I may try to catch them out and let him have a go at breeding and rearing the young.

Nothing to add, except a nice link, for those that haven't seen it:

Thanks
Thanks for the link Soapy!
As for Seahorse Fanatic, did any of the eggs make it to the fry stage or larger and have you tried breeding seahorses? We have a few breeders in Ontario who have had great success breeding some fairly rare species. |

Ahhh
Dang that sucks! Well I hope they spawn again and you manage to save the fry.

I have successfully bred and raised many different clownfish species, also neon goby, gold stripe goby, bangai cardinal, orchid dottyback, and neon dottyback. I have successfully bred but not raised- yellow jawfish, watchman goby, and marine betta.

There was a real fish-whisperer in Surrey, BC who used to breed clowns and mandarin gobies. Unfortunately, he retired and sold off everything. He mostly spends his time overseas now. I didn't know about his sw breeding success until too late:redface:
Monocus used to breed neon gobies. |

are you trying to entice me to set up more tanks Anthony?

My 2 Banggais have been paring up lately.... Would be cool of they spawn as i would love to try raising some little guys!

Bangi
The Bangaii Cardinals are super cool and are very successful in breeding from what I have read. They are a mouth brooding fish and the fry get nice and big in the male's (yes the male holds the eggs) mouth so raising their fry should be easier than many of the other species of fish. Good luck with the breeding and keep us updated if you succeed!

I sure will. I have a 16g desktop nano that will be perfect for them if it happens
