Slykat's Inland Reef

This is a new 180G aquarium set up. Previously I have had a 30g and a 90G over the last 15 years. Truly enjoy following along and gathering info from Canreef's great community.

Dec/Jan worked on aquarium set up and Fish room.
Set up is in the basement rec room. I re-enforced the floor where legs sit and also changed chip board for plywood sheet. Under the stairs is the fish room with pass thru to tank for plumbing.

This looks like a really well thought out plan! Which equipment will you be running? :D

Slykat 02-08-2016 02:15 AM

Thanks, I've been reading and collecting info for the past year on this build.
What I have so far is:

Lighting - T5's Ati
Heaters - 2 Finnex 300w
Return pumps - Waveline Dc pumps
Controller - Apex - Lab grade
More to go.

Will be working on setting up sump and water storage.

Nice choice on the lighting, that's what I have. :thumb:

Slykat 02-08-2016 03:40 PM

Yes T5's give off some of the best colouration, and the fixture is excellent quality.

Built the sump stand 18" high, plus sump should give me a good working height. There is room for storage underneath. Sump is 54"X20"X18" with 4 compartments. Drain/sock section, skimmer section, return section and refugium with blacked out glass.

Why cant I get my pictures to come up automatically like the first page, attachment shows that it is max out ?

Most people upload their images to a 3rd party site like Photobucket and link from there. Canreef isnt meant to be a storage facility for photos.

Slykat 03-17-2016 06:28 PM

Ok tks.

Making water with the Vertex Ro/Di 100 GPD. Water is plumbed to my storage tank. Waste water is plumbed to drain line of a near by sink.

Work in the Fish room is almost done. Only thing left to do is to install control board, install conduit to hide cables and add items (skimmer....).

Plumbing explained: Ro/Di water is drawn from near by bar sink (white line). Blue line is Ro/Di water to storage tank. Red line is waste water to drain line connected to sink.

With the 40G storage tank plumbing (valves). You can add water to the ATO pail, Mix salt water and add new salt water to sump.

In the sump there are 3 (1.5")drain lines, Bean animal setup. 2 drain in the drain/sock section and the 3rd (emergency) is in the refugium. The main drain is controlled by a gate valve.

For the return(1") there are 2 returns into the tank, 2 tees with 1/2" inline ball valve with push connect for future use ,there is 1 tee into the fuge and an in line valve to drain waste water out of tank/sump (to the right of Ro/Di) the second valve is for redundancy (above storage tank) and to drain Ro/Di waste water.

Also the 2 pumps are identical and inlet/outlet plumbing are the same lengths to union. This way they can be interchanged if main pump goes down (weekends):(
