Rainbow Euphyllia?

I'm seeing adds for Rainbow Euphyllia.

Rainbow Torch for example.

Are these new to the trade or just new marketing?

The pics I've seen don't look like anything new to me....

Zoaelite 01-19-2016 07:16 PM

I feel this is marketing hype, I'm pretty sure these have been imported for a while and are now being branded "rainbow".

Quote:

"Price per head. A very sweet torch. The tentacles are a nice gold split with a purple brown and it has bright green tips. The body has cool green undertone. A must for every LPS fan."
On a side note I don't think I have ever seen a gold, purple, green and brown rainbow... Seems like people trying to cash in on the rainbow chalice/ acan thing.

Ryanerickson 01-19-2016 07:21 PM

Yellow, green, brown base for the most part some people may call the base purple but it's closer to brown so 2-3 Colored rainbow. I personally think the Aussie gold torch is nicer.

gobytron 01-19-2016 07:25 PM

That's my thought as well.

A fairly common thing in this hobby, unfortunately.

Where is that quote from?

Does anyone know where and when these started to be marketed as such?

A rainbow torch definitely SOUNDS nice.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 01-19-2016 07:29 PM

Could be that under LEDs these corals "look" different? i.e. different coloured emitters shining a rainbow of coloured lights on them" giving them a "rainbow look" compared under say metal halide. The one pic I see in the LF thread is for a Indo "gold" torch, so could even be that "rainbow" torch is another name for "Indo gold" torch, to differentiate it from the more golden Aussie variety. Confused yet? I vote that marketing does come into play.

gobytron 01-19-2016 07:34 PM

That could make sense.

Definitely a big transition over the last few years from MH/T5 to LED.

So some corals we've had around for a long time may very well all of a sudden look a little different.

That's interesting food for thought.

I also wonder if the steadily deceasing variety of corals that are allowed in the trade somewhat force distributors to get creative....

Its all marketing.
Like some vendors are now rebranding gold torches to something new and exciting so they can charge more.

Thank god the site is down, I really don't want to know what an Edmonton Soiler is…

Myka 01-19-2016 08:51 PM

We are definitely seeing different color varieties in the last couple years as collectors go farther out to collect new pieces. I'm not seeing the whole "rainbow" description though.

Me too. The fat tentacled Aussie gold is awesome. I also like the "toxic" green torch too.

It's not, that's all the site has ever had on it.

It's from an episode of how I met your mother way back when.

Hah!

But now you've got me thinking there should be an entry for Cornbred's Rainbow Brownapora on Urban Dictionary.

"Dude totally cranked the blue LEDs and Cornbredded that toilet rainbow frag!"

I will show myself the door now...

On a related note I wonder is a Rainbow Monti just a Pokerstar Monti having a bad day?

gobytron 01-19-2016 10:00 PM

would be the other way around...
rainbow monti's have been around for longer.

I'm sure you can find several examples of good marketing in the trade...

soapy 01-19-2016 10:08 PM

Yep. Blue lights + photoshop + funky name = cha-ching!

gobytron 01-19-2016 10:11 PM

you need to add starry eyed hobbyist to that equation....then it adds up.
