Myka 01-20-2016 11:55 PM

You can buy the canisters at a water supply place or even Home Depot. I think they're $10 or $20 maybe.

timmmmy55 01-21-2016 01:19 AM

I wish there about 34 to 60 each

Needs to be clear too tho :( cost efficient since I need a few
Closer tho :)

Reef Pilot 01-21-2016 01:44 AM

Or you can get clear ones from these guys, complete with housings. They can easily be converted to make good carbon and GFO reactors. I have ordered stuff from them before, and all good quality.

You might be right, I never actually checked what the price was in-store, only online pricing.

Why clear?

Here's a 3-pack. There are several listed. All ship from the US. Get them to ship USPS and you usually won't get any duties.

Reef Pilot 01-21-2016 04:00 PM

Tell us more about exactly why you want to buy these and what they will be used for. Maybe then we can better guide you where/what to buy.

timmmmy55 01-21-2016 04:19 PM

so pretty much all i am going to do is run a RO system with out the membrane-

so i was going to do

10mc sedament
5mc sedament
5mc carbon
.5mc carbon

give or take layout and filters but thats the ruff plan

then no more waste water or chemicals to treat the water and straight top water changes and top off container

somafish 01-21-2016 09:45 PM

I think there will still be waste water?!

No, but I'd just go buy a Britta filter :)

timmmmy55 01-21-2016 10:01 PM

ya 100% zero waste but i was thinking for the long run replacing the internial filters are way cheaper on the caninsters lik 5 to 10 each

Myka 01-22-2016 02:09 AM

What are you hoping to achieve by only running sediment and carbon filters? Fwiw, I run 0.1 micron sediment filter and 0.1 micron carbon filter and they don't clog up. I replace them after about 5000 gallons (which is about a year for me).

Btw, that link I gave you above for the eBay housings were listed in Canadian dollars (on my eBay.ca anyway).

timmmmy55 01-22-2016 03:10 AM

Nothing other than filter water and take out chlorine that's why I don't need the memebrane anymore and then not waste the water too, I saw that yes after

Myka 01-22-2016 12:31 PM

Do you have chloramines in Calgary?

timmmmy55 01-22-2016 01:34 PM

ya they add a bunch of stuff to the water!!!! we pretty much drink waste water turned good

Myka 01-22-2016 02:59 PM

There are chloramines here too, and I can remove them entirely just by using a single 0.1 micron carbon block. The bigger micron carbon blocks are not as efficient. Be aware though, that you will have water contaminated with ammonia once it goes through the carbon filter.

Is your tank a reef or FOWLR? Are you most concerned about the waste water? I'm just wondering why you don't opt for the RO system when you say the tapwater is so terrible. There are lots of options for use of the waste water. It's fairly simple to hook up a system to use the waste water in your washing machine.

timmmmy55 01-22-2016 05:23 PM

ya i sold my RO unit as i did make my mind up tho, but you say there is amonine that comes out of the filter?

Ryanerickson 01-22-2016 05:23 PM

Coming from a plumber hooking up ro waste to washing machine as far as I know is not easy most people use hot water to start with so that ends that idea right away but even with cold wash you would need a large expansion tank and a bunch of new plumbing installed even with that I doubt it would have the pressure and volume needed to operate properly . Other options are using in garden I know people that drink it but our water out of tap is 8-9 ppm so pretty clean.

The Codfather 01-22-2016 05:30 PM

There are several RO systems that are a zero waste system. I use one at home myself, the waste water is fed directly back into your potable system.
Google it. A couple fittings and you are in business.

timmmmy55 01-22-2016 05:41 PM

ya my plan was to keep it under the 80 mark all in and so far am hovering around 120 so getting down there that why looking for ppls broken units is perfect 3 housing for 20 to 30 bucks and then it save them from throwing it out too, i have time to wait till it come around or till i fiind a sale
