Bigger tank bigger headaches
So I had a 165 gallon bow front and stand and 55 gallon sump that I bought delivered to me this morning and realized that I now need to rob a bank or 3 to support my habit. 72" long 26" at its widest 25 inches high man o man lotta work ahead of me
Anyway here is a picture just after we brought it in and I found out I am out of shape and extremely whiny as the tank weighs in at about 10 tons or so according to my body http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...psibadbe1y.jpg |
Are you sure its a 165? I was under the impression that bowfronts only came as either 155 or 175?

Bow fronts are no longer made bigger than 72 gallon unless special order however you could until about a year ago get bow fronts up 260 gallons.

Next time you have to move it, get someone to help. It's a 2 person job :)

I love those bowfront tanks! I don't know if it's just the pic, but it looks like the silicone is chewed up in the front vertical corner. If that's the case, you may want to remove the chewed up edges and re-do them.

Nice looking set up, and ya you got a "SL" of work ahead and you'll need a fat wallet too. :eyebrows:

So I never paid much mind till tonight but sometime in the past somebody cut the 2 crossbraces on top of the tank I have a question do I need to worry about the missing cross bracing or was it more for holding lighting and such up?
If I need to worry about it what would you suggest to shore up the bracing? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...pscojuq9sz.jpg |
I'd worry about it. Not sure how to fix, but personally I wouldn't fill it.

Get some scrap acrylic and a couple of nylon screws and nuts and drill holes in whats left of the old bracing and the acrylic and then attach. 100% safe and easy to do. I've done it myself in the past and you can find tons of examples if you google "replacing center brace with acrylic".

Because my carpentry skills are legendarily horrible I thought it was going to look crappy as well but I was pleasantly surprised tomorrow I give it the water test getting buckets ready for the worst scenario :behindsofa: |
Nice repair job, glad to see you used 2 bolts on each end.
You should be good to go now. :thumb: |
