Slyguys 6ft shallow reef build!
So since this is my first decent size tank and it is taking a little more work and planning then I prepared for I decided I may as well do a build thread so I can go look at it down the road and see my progress. Tank is 6'x18"x18" and I will be running a halide /T5 combo. Just need to figure out how I'm going to go about doing that.
I decided that I want to put my tank in a new location that is a little more suitable for a 6ft. But that required me to tear out an existing desk that was in that spot. Thanks Ryanerickson for helping me with this part. http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...pssyw5izv7.jpg http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...suhxy76xo.jpeg http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps5ypal6zy.jpg. After puttying and sanding I got to work painting. http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps9q7jhwyh.jpg http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...pscs8yp83j.jpg http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...pswfljffmh.jpg I found a stand for my tank but it wasn't in the best shape so Tyler and I stripped it down and made some changes, but it isn't finished yet, so I will post pics soon. http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps0pfewedo.jpg http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...psxefgeksk.jpg http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...psxtsbfvxg.jpg Tank is currently being drilled and the stand should be done this week. I'm hoping to have water in it by next weekend. More pics to come |
Cool look forward to seeing your progress

So it has taken a little longer than planned but im making progress. Stand and tank are in place. Just need to finish plumbing the sump, put hinges on the doors and hang the light. Hoping to have that done tommorow.

Looking good Nick can hardly wait to see the finished set up, sounds like you had some good help.
:pop2: |
Thanks laurie! Iv made some progress in the last few days. Iv finally got it plumbed and filled it with water and added my sand. I just need to hang my light and put doors on the stand. Tommorow i will be adding some rock and playing around with rock scapes. I put the lights on top of my tank just to see how it looked so its a little close to the water right now. Im also only running 3 of the 5 bulbs.
http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps3hvxjpab.jpg Still have lots to do in the sump area but at least its running right now. http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...psm70syrg6.jpg http://i936.photobucket.com/albums/a...psrhduwgnz.jpg Will have more updates soon. |
So rockwork is done and light is hung. Just have to put stand doors on and get more flow. Let the waiting game begin.

So i have started the painful process of swapping some stuff over to the new tank. Once i have everything in the tank i will decide where it will all sit. For now im just trying to slowly get it all into one place.

On first glance on my phone screen thought thay was a Guttatus tang. I must be tired! Beauty nonetheless! |
Thanks for all the kind words guys. Its a work in progress forsure. It will be crammed with spa. Just want tank to stabilize a bit before i add them. Im getting anxious though lol
|
So i have finally transfered all my coral into my new tank. Alot of the sps is lacking color due to multiple dips but it should come back pretty soon. Not a single coral lost. Ill call this transfer a success.

Looks good, Nick, and am sure won't be long before this tank will look even better than your previous one (which was a real show case).
