New Tank Dimensions?

Ok so I am really growing tired of my 54g corner tank. It is nice enough looking but it is a true pain in the butt to get flow everywhere. The aquascape is ok but the space is limiting hard to make use of your lights. So I am looking at a new tank that will have to fit the current location and use the current stand(its made to fit a corner so it has one angled side). I can do either of the following:

29x28x22/24 this one uses up most of the stand front to back with just 10" down the side unused.

or

39x18x22/24 this one use up all the stand on the front but leave 10" at the back so not sure about balance issues

Which would be best for flow and lighting and aquascaping. Cant wait to hear your opinions. Thanks.

How about a 48x24x20 tall? That's an amazing size. Don't go too small or you will regret it...I am just saying Joe.

My dream size is 72x30x24 but I can't put that in a condo and being as I am gonna live here for at least another few years I would like a better tank to suit my situation. I will see if I have a picture of my stand with no tank on it and the location of the tank.

That's almost 300 gallon size...I like it.

This is my strangely limiting corner I have for a tank.

Just throwing it out there : 60g cube or 93g cube ?
Good luck with decision Joe

Perhaps a custom tank? That'll solve any fit and aesthetics problem you may have.

Good luck with your choice, and when you need a hand, I'll be there this time, Joe :)

Joe you probably already know but, your first measurement option gives you 10 more gallons than the second one
And the 10" on the side gives you room to grope around and maybe get at stuff

I have sent a couple emails off to Concept about a custom tank. Just not sure who to contact about custom tanks now that Denny is gone. I sent 1 email to info@concept and 1 to matt@concept so hopefully someone gets back to me.

Here is my stand with all 3 footprints drawn on it.

Interesting to see how much it costs, I need one so any contact info would be great

Well I think I settled on the 29x28x22 just not sure about style of overflow now. I was thinking beananimal centred on the back but then I was thinking maybe coast to coast. Anyone have any thoughts on herbie vs beananimal or coast to coast vs a centred overflow?

gregzz4 06-11-2015 04:16 AM

My next tank will be a semi-coast to coast (about 2/3 of the length with corner returns) and a herbie. I've been using a herbie for 3 years and not one issue. I use a float switch in my overflow box to kill the return but all has been good.
