New acquisition!
3 Attachment(s)
Just acquired a pair of new tanks. Larger one is around 72 gallons. Smaller will be modified to be sump. 30 gallon tank for that one. Lots of work ahead, including acquiring new lights, equipment, building a stand, plumbing, etc.
Will try to keep things updated. But first, a shot of my small 23 gallon. Attachment 14209 And now a couple shots of the new tanks Attachment 14210 Attachment 14211 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So after discussing things with my girlfriend and another friend of mine, I did this rough sketch up of a stand to hold these two tanks, along with a 10 gallon tank to use as an auto top off tank.
I would love to get some feedback on this thanks. Attachment 14228 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So today is the day I start cleaning the scale off the inside of the glass. Using diluted vinegar solution, a pair of razor blades, and lots of paper towels.
I must say, it's not as hard as I half expected it to be. And it looks a lot better. Here is a progress picture showing the scaled and cleaned glass. Attachment 14245 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Nice! Looking good. Stand looks good too, and I like the idea of the small shelves for food and such. Maybe throw the electronics in there too? Only thing I would change is larger doors for maximum access to the sump.

Thanks wardog. I think we may actually mix the small door on the side for food etc, nix the end door with sliding tray, and go with three doors and perhaps a drawer on the front.

Tank is cleaned up except for a little bit of debris left in the bottom. Picked up some Krylon Fusion today and did three light coats along the back, bottom and plumbing side of the tank. Didn't want to go with any more coats as I really liked the marbled look that was appearing.
Was a beautiful day to use the paint. Nice and hot so it made for quick drying times. Here is what I meant about the marbled look. Attachment 14265 And here we are with a couple shots after moving the tank back inside. Attachment 14266 Attachment 14267 Attachment 14268 I'm thinking at this point I need to get this topic renamed and use it as a proper build thread. Maybe one day haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Love the stand! A real classic look to it :)

Which one? The kitchen table it is sitting on? Or the one I sketched up to build?

will you take $40 and do you ship ?

No shipping sorry. Honestly that table isn't worth the wood it's made of. We have decided to toss it in the trash.
Hoping to start the build of the stand soon Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Pretty sure they are joking!

Met with Eli today. Designed a nice setup using 63 lbs of rock (I believe Pukani)

And here is a short video of the rock layout that Eli posted so kindly on Youtube for us. You can really see just how many little nooks and crannys are there for fish and other critters to use.

I've been long overdue for an update on this build.
Got together and built the skeleton of the stand with a friend yesterday. Brought it home and set into place with the tank on it. Looks like I need to find a smaller ato tank for the bottom level, or bite the bullet and get Concept to build me a custom sump with built in ato compartment. I'm somewhat leaning towards option b as finding a tank to fit in the small space I need will be more difficult. All that I need to do on the stand now is skin it and stain the whole thing. Then onto the fun part of plumbing and starting the cycle. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...737560b5d1.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...df5c858eae.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Spoke with Eli and Matt today regarding the tank. Eli mentioned I could go ahead and add in the sand to the rocks now.
Looking at doing a custom sump built by Concept to fit into the bottom of the stand, and will be plumbing everything in before Jim and I go ahead and put the skin on the stand. Here is a short video I shot today to show more of the nooks and crannies setup by the rock. http://youtu.be/6zKqufalNnI Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Oh and a picture of the tank with and without sand.
