Java Fern

I'm not sure what kind it is. I was told it is just Java Fern. It is a dark green color, long, about 3/4 inch to 1 inch wide and the leaves come to a point at the tips. It reproduces easily if you have enough lighting. I'm not sure what else to say. I will see if I can get ahold of my friend and get him to take a digital picture of it.

I have some Java Fern that I could bring to the meeting if either of you are interested.

Java Fern/meeting

I would be interested Ron thanx. What are the light requirements for Java fern. I've been so absorbed with the saltwater stuff I haven't been doing any research to speak off. I told my freshwater fish I would make their place look a little bit homier. It was a late nite.

Thanx again.

It did very well in my slightly brackish 20 gallon Eclipse 2 system under 30 watts NO's, though it is relatively slow growing.

I recently transplanted some to my 45 gallon softwater system with 80 watts NO's and seems good so far.

If I remember correctly Java Fern is one of the lower light species though not as low as Anubias...

smokinreefer 01-30-2003 10:10 PM

yup, java fern is low light.
i used to have my 135 with 4 40W NO lights and i had my tank full of fern and moss.
and yes it is a slow growing, but hardy plant.

StirCrazy 01-30-2003 11:16 PM

get yer tank up around 2 watts per gal and add food for it and Java fern grows like a weed, I have a whole tank full og it now.. but I only have 3 out of the 5 commen viriaties.
