Red turf algae
 

How do I kill this stuff? I've Tryed blackouts, rubbing alcohol, freshwater, fire, it doesn't die. Just turns more red. How the hell do I get rid of it??? My soft coral tank has one rock full of it.

If the rock can come out and there's no corals on it peroxide dip it or just dry it out:)

Take the rock out and bleach it (or vinegar bath if you're scared of bleach), or learn to live with it. I haven't found anything that eats it, and it lives off fumes I think (haha). That stuff is terrible, and really difficult to remove manually. It seems to eventually cycle out after some months, but really it is a pain in the butt.

I had a batch of it in my 20gallon for a while. It didn't really take anything over or kill anything. However, after a year or so of running the tank, it eventually died off itself...

Its easy to get rid of...

Ultalife red slime remover. Gone in a week and prob wont come back....

Your skimmer will go crazzy for 7 days so either shut it off or turn it WAY down!

Problem solved... And its reef safe too...

I've never heard about those products killing turf algae..

Slime remover won't kill turf algae. Slime remover is just an antibiotic - for cyanobacteria.

I can live with it, it's not really all that bad. I have found that peroxide somewhat works, but the rock has been dipped 5 times and maybe 10% of the algae has turned white. I read on another forum that urchins will destroy it. Along with all the frags as well

urchins cannot pick up glued down frags :biggrin:

except if they are zoas.the only thing tat has been eating the rha is been my sea hare-and it has nt been doing a good job

Red Slime Remover is an Antibiotic BUT Chemi-Clean is NOT Antibiotic but an oxidizer. IF your Anti-Antibiotic then use Chemi-Clean.

You are confusing cyano, which is a bacteria and red turf algae, which is a photosynthetic algae.

Fuana marin algae x. Dosen't tangs eat the stuff
